Western Pa Stunt Championships
« on: September 10, 2007, 08:11:41 PM »
The Western Pa Stunt Championships were held a few weeks ago in Sharon Pa.  The Skylarks of Sharon and Phil Spillman hosted the event.  A great time was had by all even though we had some windy and stormy weather on Saturday.  Here are some pics and  a video of Phil flying his Top Flite Nobler in Expert Classic.

I tried to attach a youtube but it didn't work so here is the URL

The truth is it couldn't handle the outside corner at the top of the hourglass and came in on me.  I came within about 1-2 feet of pulling it out.  I suggested to Phil that he lower the ground a couple of feet for next years contest.

Now here's the bad part.  It wasn't my plane.  I borrowed it from a friend who is about a foot taller and a hundred pounds heavier than me.  Fortunately he's a great guy.  (Oh yeah, I bought him a new ARF).

See you Saturday at Brodaks Joe.  y1 y1 y1

Thanks Pat.  Now that I've been flying the pattern for a three years I think I'm starting to get the hang of it.  It's a shame my reflexes aren't what they were 50 years ago and won't be getting any better any time soon.

Here's a video of you on Sunday.

Thanks Pat.  I enjoy watching you guys fly.  Where is the best place to get info about the contests you mentioned and any other local contests?

Hey Sam,

You only shortened the  life span of the Nobler by a little bit. I believe I've crashed about every plane I've owned and it was just a matter of time before I made a Yard Dart out of the Nobler.   Besides, I can't think of a better person that I would have crash one of my planes!

Replacement wasn't necessary but appreciated.  Sorry I couldn't make it to Brodak's today.  Wife still suffering with kidney stones.

See you when you get back from NC.

Your friend,

Joe

Hi Sam, Thanks so much for your pictures! I saw the you Tube shots of your Profile flight in July and except for the Four leaf Clover I thought that they turned out fine! I liked seeing my ARF Nobler flight at our contest also well done as well as for Pat Rowen's PA pattern! Truly well done! I hope that some day I'll be able to take videos like you. Hope to see you down south as time goes by!

Hi Phil,

Good to hear from you.  Glad you liked the videos.  Speaking of down south, that's where I am right now.  Met with my builder today.  Still on schedule for an 11/8 move date.  They almost finished the dry wall today so it's looking good.  I'm really going to miss being 15 miles from the great fields at Brodaks.  I'm going to try and go to one of the local hobby shops in Raleigh tomorrow and check on clubs in the area.  I know they fly CL in Smithfield but that is about 45 minutes away.  I'm hoping to find something a little closer.  Remember you're welcome in Wendell when the snow is flying in Sharon!

Phil,

I didn't have any luck finding any other clubs at the hobby shop in Raleigh.  Bill Little is attending a contest here in NC and is going to dig up some more info on local clubs.  I did find out from a local here in Wendell that Smithfield is only 25 minutes away which isn't bad.  I know they fly CL there.
