Well this is my latest offering, and what a nightmare

I managed to get a bit of paint on it, and everywhere else for that matter

If you look closely, and I don't recommend you do, you can see where the tape pulled the yellow dope off, another re-do. Its 46" span, own design, Magnum 30FS powered, what you see weighs 33oz. Covering is a silk scarf. The bottom will be red dope, when I've redone the damage

Thanks for sharing the frustration. We've all been there. Its helpful to hear it doesn't happen just to me. When we are in our workshops we can often think that. Takes courage to share it and it sure helps me when I get a redo result.

It doesn't have a name, but I'm seriously considering calling it "The Disaster"

but I think Don McGovern got there first with one of his designs in Flying Models many years ago!

Thank your for your kind comments chaps. I was trying to capture a vintage appearance, but no model is really our own design, I pinched (stole!) bits from various models the wing and fin are stretched and tapered from a '59 Crusader by Claire Sieveling (sorry if thats not the right spelling!). You don't know how many times this model nearly went in the bin.

I always thought "Curved Air" was a good name for a stunter! Remember them??

I saw Curved Air at the Colchester Uni back in the very early 70's, still got one of their albums! weren't they the first band to use a Moog synthesizer?

Hi Nevel, Very nice effort! I used to really like silk scarves for my Combat planes and some others! Pray tell how do you like the Magnum .30 for Stunt? I have one which I used on a S-1 Ringmaster and it pulled that unclean plane quite well! I was interested in your 4C fuel formula as well! incidentally in my experience, ugly ducklings usually fly much better than the pretty ones! Pancho

Phil, I haven't run it yet! Its been modified by my local model shop, Weston UK. All my other 4 strokes run on straight 20/80 fuel! I have used 10% nitro. This will be the first 4 stroke I've used in a C/L model!! should be fun, the crankcase and lugs are exactly the same size as the OS FP25! So if it doesn't work I have one I can stick in it. What size props work best on your Magnum 30 ? I had no problems running my other 4 strokes on Castor, I just used to flush them through with IPA, now and then, then oil after that.

Neville, do a search for members and look for Bob Reeves. He helped me quite a bit with my little four stroke with just using a prop he sent me. It was a 9-7 wood prop. Made a lot of difference in my little engine. He has been playing/using four strokers for quite a while.

Thanks Doc, I found wider blade props worked better on the 4C engines in my radio models, don't know if this applies to a C/L model, be fun experimenting ??

Yes there is a big difference between CL and RC. The radio planes don't have the drag of the lines. I had a blast with a SIG Senior Kadet and a Enya .46 four stroke. Ran 11-7 Master Airscrew Props. Tried others but it seemed the best. Also got rid of muffler pressure. It was a great little engine until after many many hours of flying the rear bearings for the gears of the pushrods went to pieces.

Hi Neville, I ran an APC 9 X 4 on my Magnum .30 4C. At that time I was running YS 20 : 20. I had tried this same mixture on my OS .40 Pre Surpass and Surpass engines and got erratic performance from each. All this while living in Pennsylvania. We moved last summer to Virginia where a new friend suggested that I try his fuel in my Surpass .40 which had been poorly performing on my Dragon Old Time plane. His fuel turned my engine and the plane's performance around 180 degrees! I knew that I couldn't get his fuel cause he mixed his own so a close approximation was to mix 1/2 YS 20/20 with my regular stunt fuel 10% Nitro 11% Synthetic and 11% Castor Oil. This mix worked as magically as the lent fuel did! When I put my Magnum .30 back on my old Ringmaster this will be the first mix I try. Previously the YS 20/20 blend worked fine in the Mag. .30 4C. I found that and old style 11 X 5 Zinger worked well on my Surpass .40. My only suggestion is that you use after runoil in the 4C engines after every session. I've been using Air Tool oil as my after run oil of choice; atf works fine as well.
