Wee Duper Zilch Short kit by builtrightflyright
« on: August 29, 2010, 02:14:02 PM »
Hi All,

I just received my short kit for the Wee Duper Zilch from Walter Umland.  It looks awesome!  I always thought it was a very neat looking plane, and have thought about building one for years.  A really thick wing for its size!

Everything is laser cut and perfect with very nice CAD lans drawn by Barry Baxter and modified for use by Walter.  I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a neat looking, OTS legal, possibly a .061 to .10 (vintage) good flying model!  I plan to use either a K&B Greenhead .09 or a Max .10S.  I will try to get some pictures up before too long.

Tahnks, Walter!

Thanks, please keep us posted as you go on this one Bill. I've got a few O.S..10's that are waiting for a good home myself.

Hi Wayne,

I might jump on this one pretty soon.  I have to get a couple things "off the table" first.  The little OS 10S is a pretty good engine, runs like its big brother the 35S! LOL!!  And it's pretty light.

I will post more on it as I get to it. y1

Bill - I built my Wee Duper in 1992.
It flys beautifully with the K&B .09.
I even won OTS a few times.

Here's mine from a 1964 repair pic. Built from a kit in 1960, power was OS Pet .09.

I have tried to check out the Wee Duper Zilch on Walter's builtrightflyright site and every time I cluck on it the site tries to link me to AOL's email function.

I'm using Internet Explorer, and I successfully was able to check out other kits. Is the problem on my end?

Hi Bob,

I have a K&B .09 (only have one! LOL!!) and it was pretty frozen when I got it.  I just haven't broke it down yet.  But, the little OS 10S is such a sweet little engine............ ;D

George, go to the vendors corner, all the info you need is in Walter's spot there. And his web only takes you to his email on the WDZ

Thanks Leester. That is a great looking short kit.

I noticed that Walter used the Published version of the WDZ rather than the kit version. There are a few small differences.

Yup I'm ordering one too.  Love the idea of the OS10 or the K&B 09, but I have a more draconian power system in mind...  VD~

Bill - the OS .10 might be a bit better than the K&B .09. Before I flew mine with the K&B,, I lapped the head to raise the compression a bit and installed a small OS ratchet type NVA. I used a bit more nitro also.

I think you'll enjoy the plane.

I just received a OS pet .099 for mine with a parts engine. I'm posting from my lap top so doing pictures this way is new to me.

That one didn't look to good so lets see if this is better  ??? ???

Today I was looking through some old CL plans and ran across my Berkeley plan for the WDZ. While perusing over the plan I noticed that the tank is supposed to be installed by cutting a chunk out of the side of the fuselage and sliding it in from the side. Has anyone installed it this way? I remember installing a "Perfect" tank from the top on mine.

Some of us were discussing online some years ago about building the wing using strip ribs. It appears to be a good candidate with that nice thick airfoil. Anyone done that?

Hi George,

I need to check my plans that came with the kit, but I don't think it is a "slide in the side" set up. ;D

Strip ribs would probably work fine, but after seeing this laser cut kit, I wouldn't even think of doing anything else except getting one from Walter! LL~  It really is awesome.
