Contest arrangements are all in place for the Valley Circle Burner's Hi Johnson Stunt and Carrier Memorial Contest on October 13 and 14. See the Events posting for all the details!

We just made arrangements with the Valley Flyer's club who are running a Heli Fun Fly concurrently for barbequed burgers and a soda for $5.

Come out and fly off the paved circles at Apollo 11 Field.

Everything is looking good for the Hi Johnson Stunt and Carrier contest next weekend. The weather has been good--and we are hoping for some more of it!

Come out and fly, guys!

If you have never flown at Apollo field, you are in for a treat. If possible bring a sunshade, there will be some there but more are always welcome. Three fully paved circles, two for stunt, one for carrier.

The RC field across the parking lot has very high class models. Incredible EDF and turbine jets, lots of large scale stuff.  Also side fields for park flyers and Heli/Quad flying. If you are into that sort of thing, there is a nearby field for free flight models and a pond for sailboats.

The air is very "clean" as there are no significant buildings or trees to cause turbulence. (unlike my usual flying site :(  )
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

So this particular weekend, there will be a Heli Fun Fly going on Saturday concurrent with our Old Time and Classic stunt events. The R/C area will be closed down to all but the heli activities. There is no usage conflict between the normal control line area and the R/C areas. Then on Sunday, we will take over the normal heli and drone areas to use for our Carrier event. It is equipped with painted deck and AMA arresting gear. The main R/C areas (big runway and electric/slowflyer runway) should revert to the usual weekend airshow with anything and everything fixed wing in flight.

Today, among many others, we watched a huge F7F Tigercat put on a pretty good show, smoke and all....

Make plans to come fly control line next weekend, or change your plans and come fly control line....

Thank you to the Knights of the Round Circle for their help staffing this contest!

Here is a link that will show you the satellite view of the field. You can zoom out and look at the roadmap and work out your driving route. The access road to the field is entered from Woodley street. I believe the address is 6201 Woodley Avenue. See the second link below.

We will be using the two adjacent, darker circles for stunt and the circle in the far corner for carrier on Sunday.

The rain stopped a few hours before the start of the contest, and the random drizzle before registration was completed. Everyone that showed got a chance to fly in very calm conditions and no sun to have to squint at--all day!

For tomorrow, the weather report is saying sunny with a 10% chance of a random sprinkle at 8:00 a.m. and dropping to zero chance by 11:00 a.m.  Surprisingly, the wind is also predicted to stay below 8 mph thru late afternoon, so that is actually better than our normal summer/winter weather pattern. (After the normal storm hits us out of Alaska, we get a strong, backing wind.) The weather guys predicted today right on the money, so we are liking what we see for tomorrow!

Pack up your gear and join us Sunday on the newly washed circles. All carrier events, and four classes of PAMPA PA. Registration starts at 7:30 and Pilot's meeting at 8:30.
