Yes our hero's from WWII are growing fewer with every year that passes.

Indeed a loss. I grew up in Alabama and from an early age was interested in flight so I knew of the Tuskegee Squadron.

There was a made for TV movie called "The Tuskegee Airmen" which Cuba Gooding Jr. co-starred in. It was this movie and its great cast that brought their story to more of the rest of America than had known of them before.

In post production now is a theatrical movie also co-starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and you can see more about it here:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0485985/

I just went over the character list of both movies and do not see Lee Archer's named in either. What a shame. Could be that the new movie called "Redtails" might list a memoriam.

I didn't know much about the Tuskegee Airmen before the TV movie; I antisipate the new movie very much; it was a great story. I've been to a reunion of the Doolittle Raiders back in '93 (I think). It was so great to meet the actual men who flew that mission; such greatness from such young men!  I'll dig out a photo and post, if that's OK.

I saw that movie and enjoyed it very much. I had heard of the Tuskegee Airmen but did not know many details.

The loss of any WW2 vets is a great loss. As you mention, not very many left. It is surprising how many famous movie stars were vets of WW2.

A prayer for Mr. Archer.

I did get to meet one of the Airmen at the Reno Air Races in 2008.  I have his autograph on a picture of him someplace around here.
