Friday afternoon, Retired Lt Col. Robert Friend died at the age of 99. He was one of the last surviving members of the famed Tuskegee Airman.
He flew 142 combat missions during WW2. Afterwards, served in Korea and Viet Nam. He later worked with the Air Force on weapons development programs.
Fair winds Lt Col. Friend, thank you for your service and your patriotism. Rest in peace

The "Greatest Generation" will be missed as they go to be with the Lord. Rest in Peace Col. Friend.

They were true heros in every way. And, they were great fighter pilots that the Germans did not like to come up against. I recently attended a car show/fly-in at which there was a red tail Mustang present, and the daughter of one of the original Tuskegee Airmen. It was really nice to meet her.

Larry,
Thanks for posting the news I wouldn't have learned of his passing otherwise. The last Red Tail! I have intended to make a "Red Tail" in honor of the brave men who fought for our country . The two movies that I have about them are "The Tuskegee Airmen" and the second one is "Red Tails". Very good movies about them.

I've seen them too, and would rate "The Tuskegee Airmen" as the better of the two. Much better.
