"Control Line, C/L, U-Control" has been renamed by Tower Hobby.
Stuff without throttles is now known as "Non-R/C".
We obviously can't beat 'em so we might as well join 'em. It's time to rename this forum and all of our contest flyers with our new name Non-R/C.
I can already visulize a batch of shirts for the F2 Team.

I used to razz Ken Wilson of Wilson's Hobby before he left this world about nothing in the shop for control line. He then stated, "Look at the package, it says R/C". I said yes it does, that means radio control and he corrected me in that he said it meant "REAL CONTROL". Him and his boys started with control line. When he left us they were all playing with the 1/4 scale sprint cars. Have fun, DOC Holliday

My brother lives for R/C. I call it a large screen VIDIO in the sky .Try the U/C stunt pattern on a monitor

I guess Control Line has gone the way of tetraethyl lead.
Years ago, my daughter asked me why every gas station has sighns that say "unleaded gas". She had a good question, since leaded gas was banned in 1975. Thus far, gas station owners have been wasting eight letters of signage for 32 years with no end in sight. When say "unleaded" nobody sells gas with lead in it?
Same-same R/C models! Radio Control = 12 letters of wasted signage for 99.5% of the modeling world.
But we still fly "Non-R/C". So let's get in step with Tower and use our new name.
-
Maybe we could go for M/C...manual control.... >:D

D/C would be better. Direct Control. Let the 'lectric boys get a new name for themselves. LL~ Steve

Do you now have to use a Non RC engine for carrier?
-
Actually, you use a "regular engine" in Navy Carrier and CL Scale.
You use "non-R/C" engines for other non-R/C events.

What occured to me is the similarity of format to how some religions refer to themselves and the the rest of the world : "Ours (the ones who are correct) and non-fill-in-the-blank (everybody else).

We should adopt the GIECO cavemen as our mascots. Like them, we are thought to be extinct.

Hey, get with the current aerospace jargon. We "fly by wire"! #^

I wonder what the new name is for free flight?

"I wonder what the new name is for free flight?"
Well how about "Uncontrolled flying"?
Andy

Andy,
That is an R/C term to be sure. Generally accompanied by "I ain't got it!".

Can't argue with that, it was a temporary flash back to my days "on the dark side".

I can think of a lot worse things to be called! I don't really care--I am just glad Tower is carrying non-rc stuff.

Obviously, the new name for Free Flight is "non-R/C", just like all non-R/C.

Non RC and the Other Black Arts
Actually there is something that irritates me about the expression "Non RC". I can't exactly put my finger on it, but it is like anything other than RC is not worthy of having it's own name. I have no beef with the Non Control Line fliers. To paraphrase the old cliché "Some of my best friends are Non Control Line fliers".I even have been known to take a walk on the dark side.
To quote Dennis Miller, "Just my opinion, I could be wrong".
