Does anyone know if Wayne ever completed this project? It seems like such a cool idea, even if it would only be a toy in the grand scheme of stunt.

Piped .049s are a bit thin on the ground around here, but I do have some .12 RE car motors with dead pistons and rods that could be converted to a tame enough setup to run a stunt style pipe at say 16-20krpm....

Any thoughts on model size, engine tricks, downsizing tricks etc? I'm thinking 35-40" span I-beamer, maybe a bit like the Mayfield Playboy pictured elsewhere, but smaller. The kind of thing to keep in the back of the wagon for those lunch breaks when you can't resist the temptation to go and fly....

That is a neat ship.  Busby on here has something very similar but I haven't seen it in person.

Yes, I have a 1/2 A Shrike. 310 sq in with a .051 Cyclon.
I will try to get photos to post on here.
Its a fairly big plane for a 1/2 A, 35 3/4 in span, weighs 10 oz.
It took longer to build than two of the piped Shrikes.

Sadly, Wayne did not finish this project.
He was a tremendous person and outstanding modeler. May he rest in peace.
He did bequeath the 1/2A Tempest to a close friend here in Florida.
