Question for any who have been there done that

I really desire Robert’s (SH) and Jacob’s (CoxEngine) opinions and advice

Bottom line up front:
How would I find a low cost web hosting service for a very small web page with general information and a donate link?

Info only, no FORUM needed nor desired.
----------------------------------------------

Wife is a volunteer for a local County “Community Cats” Trap, Neuter and Release (TNR) group with little to no budget and a few donations

Another county is providing monthly space available VETERINARY services for low cost or free

At my suggestion..they need to get a web site, Nonprofit designation, and a PayPal “Donate Now” presence ---they are considering these recommendations

They / I are absolutely NOT interested in YOUR opinion about ALL Feral Cats need killing… These ladies are following their own moral compasses.

To date in first two months, they have trapped, gotten medical care, and euthanized some, gotten rabies shots, abortions, and neutering for 76 of our gross over population of cats in our county. There is an estimated 1500+ feral cats in the county.

This rural county has one dedicated Animal control deputy who is over worked with more dangerous animal problems, and as typical, no money to properly address ALL animal control problems.

The idea here is to trap, get most rabies shots and neutering--then release them back where they came from to live out natural lives and NOT increase the population… some are so diseased they must be put down

They have started  the State and Federal 501C path, they have donors lined up, they still need a formal board of directors/Officers, and recorded meetings.  They secured an ordinance in the City to do this work and are working on the county side.   100% volunteer driven.

Opinions, advice, good ideas… sought

Please keep it on subject…

How to properly define a problem, and solutions about cat over population, are relevant…

But all “kill the vermin buggers” suggestions are irrelevant…..especially if you have some strange and cruel ideas about how all cats should be treated

TIA
Fred

  Hi Fred;
I admire their passion for this endeavor. This is a problem that only those in certain areas could understand. I understand the thought about killing all feral cats, but some irresponsible pet owners............ no that is a whole 'nother subject! i wish you gust good luck in the project. I have no real advise because I have no expertise in the matter. The only thought I have is that there could be some way to piggy back off an establish Humane Society website, or similar? They are established and well known. To those that wouldn't think much of this project, think about what might happen to the rodent population if you were to suddenly eliminate their natural predator population? These animals do have a natural purpose in life.
  Type at you later,

Thanks MM ....sincerely appreciated

I think my wife said they (GFM) siphons 7.9% and $0.30c off every transaction---- and (I have not researched) but she said a large donor who desires a receipt for tax purposes it is a royal PITA to deal with GFM ---while PayPal is relatively easy for the donor

Dan
Thanks

Yes there is a place (but must be controlled) for feral cats

I did go to one meeting on the subject, where it was discussed about a 100+/- count population "colony" of diseased cats in the city...I opined that a sheriff's Dept controlled "one time kill off" was the best / cheapest solution...the hue and cry against --was astounding....Even from the Sheriff...Who IMO is supposed to be open to "Most Effective Solution" problem Solving

Since organized the animal shelter volunteers receive constant requests for this service from the usual suspects*

But one astound story is a guy on Fort Hood Army base... (adjacent county and Federal property) demanding this service--- he has been fined once and is facing $2000 fine for the 34 cats he feeds and waters near his on base housing.....He wants them trapped and transported to a distant location...for free...IDIOT

*Usuall suspects=
Lil old nursing home lady who feeds and waters cats... now too many
Home owner or rancher on a popular drop off county road

Some un-measurable part of the problem is, we are near Fort Hood with 33,000+/- to 56,000+/- soldiers, who are frequently deployed to locations where the shipping and quarantine of pets can get pretty damned expensive.....

So they think lil fluffy, or buddy the Pit bull, will have a great life and adventure with some rancher / country home owner, and they do the drive by thing

I live on such a county road, and we see some 12 to 30 "new" lost dogs a year (been here 22 years now)...no idea how many cats

We do NOT feed or water ANY animals outside OUR family pets...OH well that is a lie... humming birds, other birds, and of course the squirrels that steal the feed

Wish I knew of a certain way to help. However, there is a TV show on here Saturday mornings called "Save Our Shelters". It is sponsored in part, by the Bissell Corporation and Bissell family's animal foundation, Petco, PetSmart, pet food manufacturers, etc. It might be possible for them to help in some way, perhaps just arranging for the web hosting. Noble project you have on your hands!  y1 Steve

Well, I wasn't going to mention it except for the extended rant -- have you considered recipe books?  Make cat meat popular enough, and the problem will solve itself.

As to your actual question -- I use NearlyFreeSpeech.  Very basic, you'll need a Linux wonk on hand to make it work, but the fee is per-byte and very low.  If the "donate" link is easy (and PayPal should make it easy) then you're home free.

I don't use WordPress, but my wife is on a lot of knitting blogs that use it, so it has to have something going for it.

We feed around 12 feral cats and we use to get free food from Purina they have stopped so we get it from the Cat Pantry. They are almost tame now.

Thanks Robert... I was hoping ...since I assumed you already did the low cost web site hosting research ...that you could help steer me

I have done the Google search and found all the "Top ten best web site hosting" reviews...but lack a good way to find any that will do Pro bono or deeper discounts for simple web pages...I know there must be a few out there

NOTE EDITED IN

I will look into that option

Thank you Robert...the below was started as Sparky was responding
-----------------------------------
OK, let me ask this another way

What am I looking at--- trying to Create and host MY OWN meager web page on a (great) lap top in a very robust and secure 5 computer WIFI MS Windows 10 network with cloud and local storage...BUT a very flaky ISP?

This web page would only be basic information on the Lampasas Volunteer Community Cats TNR Program

I am thinking only:
A contact us
a link to their authority  (the city / count ordinances)
some beg for help, and a EASY donation link
Perhaps a semi monthly update on stats....heavy on successes and a bit about the growing problem

No chat, no forum, very little if any photo content

The things that keep me personally from volunteering to do this are;

1...I have no web page design experience ...tho I know there are many good free WYSIWYG programs...but I am really HTML ignorant...although I did run more than one BBS back in the early 80s

2...I have a lot of good MS WIN hardware and good large capacity storage...but my Rural, very low bandwidth ISP is NOT a good 24/7 solution....dedicated T-1 is possible BUT NOT ON MY DIME!!!

For the last 10 years I am fed by a Rural Broad Band service where I pay for 5 MBPS and get less than 1MBPS due to my distance on the 2.5Mhz link
But much better than dial up or other LL* based options
No cable...never will be
Not eligible for Huges Net Gen 4/5 (over sold in my area)
May well be dead before FIOS arrives..

----- ironic that a 4 inch diameter FIBER BUNDLE TRUNK LINE is 750 feet from my property...but no close CO**

I tested Army Computer Enterprise software's and Large scale Com systems---

*LL...Land Line
** CO..Central Office... A location to redistribute*** connectivity to business, government, or other customers

***A trunk line must be later distributed..

There is NO rural distribution of this capacity (in my county) that is RIGHT THERE!!!!! grrrrr.... sux to be a BIG assed county with only 17,000 potential customers
