Fox 35X as a stunt engine

I have an opportunity to by a Fox 35X. It appears new and has the original venturi insert. How do these perform as a classic stunt engine? I noticed the weight is a little higher then the 35 Stunt, 7.5 ounces.

Probably not timed correctly for stunt.

I extensively used the 35 Combat Special Black Head and while it was very strong even on Superfuel.....it was not timed for the usual 2/4 break.
The 35X is very similar but updated for even more combat power.

I would buy it anyway if in good condition.....just to have it!

Fox 35X had issue with crankshaft.  The crankpin was weak and broke. The 36X was brought  out as improved engine to remedy the problem. I'd like to locate a 36X BB version which I can rebuild using my ABC P&L setup from Brian Gardner.

There's something to be said for that, Frank. Plus, I doubt it would last long enough to worry about a crankpin.

The 35X would be a great for a sport flying vintage combat plane of the same era as the engine.  Don't worry about the crankpin unless you're going to run boo-koodles of nitro through it. A 35X in good shape on 10% nitro w/castor oil will last a loooong time, AND, it will be plenty fast enough on a Voodoo to give you a rush.

Yesterday, I asked Gary Letsinger what he was building. He said "Ringmaster Imperial", and added that he'd had one before that he had powered with a Fox .35X. So, remembering this thread, I asked how it worked. "Pretty good, actually" was the answer. Maybe it ran just like a .40VF? Who knew that would work out so well?  Steve

Way back when, I had a Fox 35 X in a Chief...    An extra head gasket, stock venturi insert and Superfuel.....   Ran very well as I recall.....
Give it a try....
