Warning
« on: February 02, 2011, 11:18:11 PM »
I basically fly OTS and classic.  I also fly E3D electric RC.  Recently I purchased lithium batteries from Hobby king in Hong Kong.  Within two hours two Hong Kong sites I never heard of managed to empty my checking account to the tune of 2 grand.  This company is absolutely unsafe to do business with.

Call your bank ASAP.  I had a bunch of $$ disappear from my checking account (before I ever started buying from Hobby King); once I assured them that I absolutely positively hadn't bought a Really Genuine Fake Rolex Watch from Bulgaria, they were able to get the charges reversed, except for $5 or so, which I was willing to part with given the circumstances.

Let Hobby King know, too -- if they care to do business in the US, they should care to plug whatever leak they have.  I've bought from them without problem, and I others here have, too.

If you do contact Hobby King please let us know what they said -- if they help you fix the problem that's points to them; if they blow you off, the world should know.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Certainly not a complete loss, call your Bank as suggested they can track your funds - most banks have an online policy.

I online trade a lot and would ONLY ever use PAYPAL, if someone doesnt accept it, dont' do buisness with them. 100% safe and with a great track record.

When shopping online always use paypal were you can or a prepaid credit card, I got mine from Money Mart, never give out banking info or use a online cheque.

This should also serve as a warning to those who have in the past dealt with Hobby King.

Keep an eye on your account balance / credit card / etc., for bogus charges.

Donald,

I hope you have straightened out the problem!

Money orders and Pay Pal here, too.  And I really prefer Pay Pal, getting lazy and have other commitments right now, so getting to the Post Office to BUY a money order is getting to be PIA.

No paper checks or credit cards, either, just a debit card.

My bank may be able to fix this.  That is the good news.  I contacted Hobby king and so far no response whatever.  that is NOT good.  Period.  The two sites that hit my account were Ishop2go HK  and Technopark Lim HK.  Both Hong Kong sites.  And probably right down the ave from Hobby King.  There is a great new site in the US that I'll deal with now.  Valuehobby.

noT good.

1) Sometimes, it's very difficult to find out just where online stores are located, so do your homework before you buy. Look for a button that says "About Us"...it might be there. I like to deal with folks on the West Coast of the USA. If I really feel I've been wronged, I can eventually do a drive by...

2) A debit card is potentially a lot more dangerous to have/use/carry than a credit card. The bank will refund overcharges and backcharge the outfits that try to get rich on your card. The same does not apply to debit cards.

3) Had a co-worker drive down to Taco's Is Us (fictitious brand) at lunch. Went through the drive-through, and paid with his credit card. He noticed that the girl ran the card and also wrote down the #'s, and asked what the he!! she was doing. He sat right there, blocking the drive-through and called the police on his cell phone. She was arrested and prosecuted. Moral of the story is: Keep your eyes open!!!   H^^ Steve

My debit card got hacked at a fast food "resturant" last fall. I noticed the girl kept my card a little longer than usual and the receipt was different than normal. My bank refunded the money in 2 days no problem, still had to go to the bank and sign a form, that was the only hassle although it was a great wake up call. I still use my debit card all the time, i just watch the person doing the transaction carefully!

Just had my credit card hacked for $3400.00. The charge was to Apple.com. I called my bank and they cancelled my card and stopped the payment. I was lucky. I noticed it on my banks website. The funny thing is I do not buy things on the internet with the card but only use it for a back up to my PayPal account. This is the third time in less than a year. I must be doing something wrong..

I have learned the hard way to not trust ANYTHING on line.

If they are not available by phone they do not want my business and won't get it!

I also keep little money in the account that is connected to my debit card.
