Title: Warning
Post by: john e. holliday on July 24, 2019, 02:55:32 PM
Well you guys are probably getting fed up with the old DOC.   But finally found a doctor that explained my problems with back, legs and knees.  He showed me the X-ray pictures and said as we get older the discs get compressed and spurs start growing on the vertebrate.   The fifth one from bottom was already fused and spurs on lower ones are compressing the nerves to leg and knees plus the muscles.   He does not recommend surgery at my age because of blood clots and inflammation.  He said if I follow his orders I will be good for a few years.  I asked him about mowing and fly my planes.   He said get a back brace and any sign of pain stop doing it.  Any way first session was today and I go back Saturday for another of several sessions.  I guess I deserve this as I was told several times to change doctor but with my medical I had to use the one I was seeing until he seen the X-rays and he recommended this doctor.   Yes it is going to cost me.  So fellows if you have problems get to a doctor.  More later. D>K

I know one thing is that vibrator felt good and I can't remember the last time I was laid flat on my belly. H^^

I've got two very compressed/damaged disks. L3/4 and L4/5.  I can tell you this, a day of flying, or anything that involves bending over or crouching down, leaves me a little uncomfortable for a while......

Hey Doc!  Sorry to hear about your back problems!  You're younger than me, so guess I've been lucky so far!  No back problems but lots of other things that are probably just as bad.

I wish you luck and sending prayers!

Your very old friend,
Randy Cuberly

Sorry to hear that Doc. I have been fighting the same thing for 30 years. MRI showed three bulging discs in my lower back. I feel your pain.

But hey, I still have my bride of 60 years, and enjoy every day to the fullest. Just do not do some of the things I use to do. I have to do things in spurts. One thing I am fortunate is that if I set down for a minute or two the pain is gone.

You mentioned mowing, I have about an acre to mow and traded my John Deere lawn tractor for a new zero turn mower a couple of weeks ago. Much easier to mow with and a lot faster. I have learned to make things as easy as I can. My back has been slowly improving again, so maybe I will be able to fly again. I can only hope. I sure do miss it. And all the people that share the same interest. That is another thing. Traveling for long hours and I can hardly move.

But I can still ride my Harley for a half hour or so without pain. Go figure.

I have had both knees replaced and they are much better than the originals!
In fact.....the food was so good in the hospital I asked my Doc if he could find something else to replace so I could get some more pot roast!

I have had some back problems as well but it turned out to be super tight muscles.
Back massages really helped and for the most part I am pain free of back pain after many, many years.
I have plenty of other pains but my knees and back were the worst....and it never let up until I did something about it.

Me too. Bulged discs in lower back and neck. I aggravated the heck out of my neck discs on July 5, power washing the sidewalks and curb/gutters at the HOA playground down the street. This creates a faux pain in the middle of my left shoulder blade that feels like being stabbed with a hot soldering iron...not that much fun! I have hopes that I will get reimbursed for the 5 gallons of non-alcohol gas used ($20).

Wednesday, my fishing buddy came over (he can fly CL) and we did that concrete project that I formed up last Fall. After 24 sixty pound bags, I'm not planning on anymore concrete projects in my lifetime. Maybe I'll be recovered by next week. But from the title of this thread, I was sure it was about the FAA again!  S?P Steve

Amazingly....I power washed the clubhouse earlier this week and man...after 3 hours of blasting off all that mold....I was soaking wet and stinking so bad from that moldy water....I couldn't stand the stink so I put the van on autopilot and let it drag me home.
Tim and Rhonda Tipton gave me a good tip to wash my stinking hat in the dishwasher with a little powdered dish soap.
No dry cycle.....it really worked.....my hat survived!!!
And the hazmat crew went home all downtrodden and looking at the ground....all pissed off that they didn't get to tear my house down!!

Second treatment today and doctor said don't push it and with back brace I should be able to fly my planes plus use riding mower.  I told him about the sharp pain I got in my hip that used to bother me years ago,   D>K
