Walter saved my bacon!
« on: September 26, 2020, 01:13:10 PM »
The Ringmaster Fly-a-Ton 2020 is coming up October 3 & 4.  I was getting my 576 E-Ringmaster ready.  My plan was to install an RC throttle so that we could fly 5 laps, land and keep doing this untill the battery runs dead.  Install a new battery and do it all over again.   I went to the field to test the setup.   I was thinking about the new setup and went brain dead.  I hooked the lines up backwards!  The resulting crash destroyed the fuselage.

Walter Umland to the rescue.  Recently Walter has moved to north Alabama.  Being close I called Walter to see if he could help.  Walter designed and provided my original IC to Electric conversion kit.  It was my understanding that he had the 576 design files.  Anyway to make a long story short Walter provided me a 576 E-Ringmaster fuselage kit in 4 days flat.   I should have it all put back together today.  Some test flights the first of next week  and I will be ready for the The Ringmaster Fly-a-Ton 2020.

Thanks Walter.  You are truly one of the good guys in our hobby.    #^    #^    #^   #^

I can second your sentiments!   He was extremely helpful on the development my FW190 parts.  The final product turned out much better than I ever expected.

Ready for test flight.  I made some changes.  The battery is now inboard.  Puts the weight on the wrong side but in the past I shucked the battery.  Not a pretty landing.  I also added an extra battery strap.  I have 4 cell batteries in all sizes.  This way I can use all of them for the Fly-A-Ton.  Hopping for 100 flights.  Also added the RC receiver.  Looks strange to have an antenna on a U-Control.  Not bad looking for a rush job on a crash rebuild.   #^   #^

That's a cool plane. I've often thought about building a big Ringmaster. Too bad about the crash but, great story and re-build.

Check with Walter.  He may be able to supply you with one.  You can build it without flaps.   It my understanding it still flies great. Also it can be IC or electric..

John,
Does the tail wheel freely rotate or was it just not locked down for the pictures?

It freely rotates.   This is shown as an option on the original drawing of the 576 Ringmaster.   Works grate.   #^

The rebuilt 576 flies great!  Did several 5 lap flights today.  Looking at the charger put-back it looks like we should get 10 flights per pack.  By the way I figured out why I hooked the lines up backwards.  It was a new set of lines and the lines were labeled backwards.   Not an excuse for the crash.  It's still my fault.  One MUST check up-down every time you connect up a set of lines.
