Hello
I have been a keen fan of Walter Musciano and his model aircraft books since a young child. Often his designs are easily recognizable and his writing on scale subjects was always fun and informative .
He did use various “nom de plume” or a pen names such as Warner Frake, Vincent Manfredi and D.A. Newell see https://www.modelaircraft.org/files/MuscianoWalterAWalt.pdf

I would like to know if there were other names he used in particular HAROLD L PRICE in relation to his 35 size scale stunter Boulton Paul "Defiant" that was 52" span for a Fox 35, some copies of the plan say it was drawn by Walter but designed by Harold are they one in the same person perhaps?  ???
Thanks
Regards Gerald  #^

PS add for the plan on Ebay :

I don’t know about other names Mr. Musciano may have used but Harold Price was a well know east coast flyer back when,  and I’m pretty sure not the same person.  I don’t think Mr. Musciano actually was known as a great flyer but prolific in all the things he did do.  Mr. Price had several published Stunt ships and developed a retractable landing gear system on a stunt ship-in the 1960s.

I have always been a fan of Walter and have built some of his hollow log models when I was a kid. I have also been interested in the Boulton Paul Defiant design too bad it has not been kitted by anybody. I like the wrap around  molded balsa on the leading edge and the thick airfoil. The hinging of the flying surfaces is different and his flap horn with offset holes looked to me advanced for the time. I have some of the books he published and from time to time I would read them again looking at the models and the plans. Here is a link to the Defiant plan.

Just read Walt's biography.   He does mention working with Harold Price.  He also mentions that did not enter any more contests after some individuals said he was a professional.  I've lost count how many of his Scientific designs I built in my early years until I got my first 35 size engine.   As he stated at the end of the article,  "What kits are out there that are affordable or even entice the youth of today"?   Thanks for the link. Hello Many thanks for the information on on Harold Price , it is nice to know some of his history.   H^^
It appears that Walter Musciano collaborated like Cal Smith did with other designers/modellers of the day to create some really neat aircraft.

My personal favorite or 'go to' book of Walter is "Building and Flying Scale Model Aircraft" of which I have a copy of the 3rd edition but think it was originally compiled back in 1953. This did confuse me as in the introduction has a picture of the Boulton-Paul Defiant along with his Consolidated PB2_A stunt design for a Fox 59 Long-Shaft (have the plan need to build one!). Walter did some very beautiful scale models like his Locheed Vega along side all those small practical 1/2 models, pity the balsa block is so expensive now.

As stated in the biography and past magazine articles Walt and Harold are two different people. D>K

Hello well this is embarrassing I should have searched the forum better (my first question has resurfaced up top too as a quote).
It would seem there is a lot of information on Stunt-Hanger but not 'Google' on Harold L Price and his models the Crusader and Valkyrie and the ingenious retract systems he developed from 1963 on. Well going back I found some of the pics of him and his models too that I have added.

Regards Gerald
PS perhaps a lesson I should not post after midnight when the brain is half off.  n~

Frank

You are correct about the snow scene. It was taken at the 1961 Snowbird Meet by me
