Walker Trophy Winner?
« on: July 15, 2007, 09:39:04 AM »
Congatulations to Mr. Hernandez.
OK now, who is he?
I has searched forum, PAMPA menbers and District reports from Stunt news, to find out more about Orestes.
Not listed as an AMA member on their web page.
Where have I been to miss reading something from or about our new Nats/Walker Trophy Champion. Honestly, I didn't just fall off the turnip truck, close but I'm still haging on.
Heard a remark he is from Miami.

Orestes is fairly quiet when he enters these contests.  He has been around before and has left his mark that he is competitive and is not to be ignored.

I may not have the complete record here of his participation in our major events but:

6th place, 05 Nats
8th place, 05 Team Trials
4th place, 06 Nats

and now

1st place and National Champion, 07 Nats.

Not too shabby.

It can be hoped that those who seem intent to spread a rumor that his model was/is not compliant with the BOM requirements will have the professional integrity to stop talking about a subject they know nothing about.   Orestes took care of that as a non issue with documentation and information to the AMA and Nats managers prior to his participation in the 05 Nats, and perhaps befor that.

Congratulations to Orestes.

I flew in many advanced at the nats with Orestes and Josias.  They are both excellent fliers, true competitors, and very nice guys.  They travel together from Miami every year.  They have been on the nats landscape for along time.  I think 98-99 may have been the first I saw them there.  It is very apparent to me they work and fly well.  One thing is for sure they have fun doing it!

Congrats to them both on their Nats victories!

I have seen Orestes, Josias, and several others of the "Merry Band of Stunt Fliers" in some of the contests I attended in the last few years.  They even came up to Huntersville, NC to fly!  KOI and Marietta were a couple of other places I have seen them.

At Huntersville in 2006, IIRC, Orestes, Robbie Gruber, Dale and Derek Barry, Tom Dixon, Randy Smith and Papa Dave Hemstraught were all flying Expert.  A few others that are pretty good Experts, also.  He almost won that day............

He is a super nice guy and explained the whole Yatsenko Shark deal then.  They had to beg and plead to get a "kit" from the Yatsenkos!  Might have even had something to do with being a distributor for them or something.  But it was NOT the assembled Shark that the Yatsenkos sell.  Seems the hold up by the Yatsenkos was that they didn't allow less than a complete plane to be sold to assure the correct building, etc., that their reputation is based on. And it did meet the rulings of the AMA when Orestes presented it for AP judging.

I am very disappointed that my little Buddy Derek didn't win, but it was lessened by the fact that Orestes is a great guy and has worked HARD to get where he is.
