Sheeks Award
« on: March 17, 2008, 07:01:27 AM »
Congratulations to Mike Haverly for the best Sheeks airplane and to Doc Holiday for the highest scoring airplane.

Has anyone taken a picture of these awards.

John Miller and I also want to thank the participants, and a big THANK YOU to Jack Sheeks and the Cholla Choppers.

There was only about 6 months for the airplanes to be built this year. There will be more Sheeks airplanes next year.

The Sheeks awards will definitely continue for years to come!

Short story about Jack Sheeks. I met Jack and Shirley about 20 years ago. It was at a contest at Ft.Benjamen Harris In. It was such a thrill for me as Jack was a childhood Hero to me. Jack was at that time the most prolific builder I had ever seen. I think he built and published 1 airplane a month. We shook hands and He gave me a autographed picture of him holding a twin engine scale plane he had built. I still have that 8.5X11 and its one of my prize possessions. A true gentleman and a legend in the model world.

Oh and by the way Congratulations to Mike Haverly for the best Sheeks airplane and to Doc Holiday for the highest scoring airplane also a great honor!

I'll second what Sparky said.  And they photograph well.

I am, of course, going to kick Mike's posterior when he gets back, for crashing his Freedom 45 on a practise flight and blowing the chance to win the whole enchilada (both Sheeks Awards).

It does seem to me that to be perfectly fair, another prolific designer oughta have a similar award. Charles Mackey, of course. Let's don't miss the chance! What would it cost to sponsor a plaque each year?  y1 Steve

Steve,

You can't kick Mike's butt. He didn't crash it. Though to be fair, the guy that did didn't have much choice.

I was thrilled to meet Jack Sheeks. Like others, a hero of mine. I read everything he published when I was a kid and have built many Sheeks planes. He's a great guy.
