Anyone get any reports from VSC yet?
Best, DennisT
-
Give them time. I take it you have never been there yet. D>K
-
Pictures are posting over on the FB control line page. Probably because it's easy, no resizing to deal with.
-
Seems there's less talk about VSC here every year. I definitely miss all the great photos and information.
-
I too miss going to VSC. D>K
-
I heard that the weather was not so good the last few days but did receive this as an update for scores.
-
Anyone have the scores from Old Time and Ignition?
-
OTS and Classic final Scoreboards.
Many photos on facebook PAMPA Control Line Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/531761010517485/

VSC report,
Weather has been perfect... first day had drizzle and 62°...
4 mph out of the sun. AM temps, 60, high of 80. Afternoon winds, 6 to 7.
We are finishing Super 70's now, 50 guys watching, 5 entrants,
Where are you guys?
Chris...

Well the old DOC would be there but physical problems, lack of car keep me home. Could not get pics to come up. D>K

It's hard to imagine. They held a VSC contest without me! Now living in western Oregon, Tucson is a long trip I could make when younger.
-
At 82 and back problems that I cannot overcome, I cannot concentrate on flying for a full 6 minutes. My back pain takes my concentration from flying to the pain. Lova and I miss all the comradery there, and all, but travel for both of us that far is just out of the question. Not counting the cost in money at this stage of our lives with the worst economy we have had forever. I still fly a little, but not competition. Still love flying ignition, both RC and control line.
-
Well, I'm now is the same boat as Ty, Floyd and jim. I'll be 83 in two months. Last fall i discovered that I have balance problems. I was testing a new model, first flight, and after a few laps tried a simple loop and staggered forward and nearly fell. Now I have pain in the left hip, waiting for MRI on spine. If I had made it to the VSC there would have been 51 watching today!

I just stepped off the airplane about an hour ago from Tucson. It was a FABULOUS way to spend a few days away from the cold weather and wind of Kansas. Jim Hoffman and his crew put on a great event and I wanted to thank them. I finally met Bart Klapinski and enjoyed visiting with him and also old friend Gordy Delaney. Got to visit at length with Keith Trostle and Chris McMillin.
I have LARGELY to thank Bob McDonald who came by way of my place to gather my airplane and flight gear to haul to Tucson and back. We had a good few days and capped it off spending the afternoon yesterday at Pima Air Museum. WOW. I was able to lay my hands on things I had only wished to: F4F Wildcat, P40E, Nakajima Oscar, Hawker Hurricane, Spitfire Mk XIV, Migs 15, 17, 21 and 29 Flogger, F80, F86 and 86D, F100, SR71...... so much more. This was worth the trip alone. I need to recover now.. thanks all!

Thanks Doc but I'm anti-facebook. Never can figure why people are in such a hurry to post things there and not on the world's biggest Control Line forum. Posting on facebook might be fine for some, but how about supporting the hobby here?

That's a easy answer. Because we don't have to play games with the pictures in order for them to be able to post.

I guess you don't understand how computers work. You can always stay on FEDBOOK

Call it what you will. At least we don't have the arguments.

On the control line flying page we don't really have censorship issues as everyone sticks to what the page was designed for. Kinda like what you started out as when you came up with Stunt Hangar. If I remember correctly you started this due to all the fighting on Stuka Stunt and here we are.

Here is just a suggestion. If you like it the fine I know who started it and who’s running it and why. Post there and stay off the threads that offend you here

That's funny, I don't recall ever saying I was offended. I was just pointing out why FB was easy for posting pictures.

I didn't mean to start a bickering match with my earlier question about the pictures. I also fully expected to quickly get the "too much hassle" reply complaint from someone.
FWIW, I use a free photo resizing tool on my computer called ShrinkPic. I downloaded it to my desktop years ago now after someone told me about it. It's super quick and easy to use. When you want to add pictures you simply go to your desktop first, click on the ShrinkPic icon to"wake it up" and then choose the desired compression setting (I use "high"). Then, just jump back to the forum and add your pictures as you wish. I'm about as far from a computer whiz as you can get, if I can figure it out anyone can.
Now, let's regroup and get back to Dennis' initial thread topic. D>K

When I wrote where are you guys, I meant where are you guys and how is the weather.

Sparky, is there no way the smf software that runs this forum can use standard tools to automatically resize photos into reasonable sizes for storage? I use it in a couple of my home-grown websites and would be real surprised if the smf folks didn't as well.
Just asking, not criticizing.

Bill, I don't want to feed a fire that shouldn't have started in the first place but I am "in the computer business" and all of the senseless bickering we collectively come up with in a month could be stored in the space of one standard cell phone picture. My std pix is 2.5mb. That about 3 1/2 million characters of text vs 1 picture. When they say a picture is worth a thousand words, they had no idea what digital was. When I reduce it in MS Paint that same picture is 180k which is still a pretty large text spat. Another thing that would help is not quoting the entire post you are referring to and cut it down to the phrase to which you are replying, ESPECIALLY if it contains pictures.
I am not defending or criticizing any one here, just stating a fact that we need to deal with. If we want bigger pictures then we would need to contribute more $$$, a lot more.

I am not even sure what the problem might be. Why would we expect a larger picture, or to post it directly without resizing it? I post pictures sometimes, I scale them to 250K target, they are fine. I wouldn't expect Sparky or anyone else to host a full-sized TIFF, from my main camera, it's 44 meg, and obviously too large for web publication.

FB is a very inexpensive alternative to club websites. I don't know how it works, but when I was webmaster for the NW Skyraiders, it was $240/year for web hosting services, and that was about 20 years ago. The only reason I joined FB is because Bruce Perry started the ACFC page, and Nigel Tarvin started the Vintage FAI FF page. FB also makes it easier to keep track of relatives, old acquaintances, their birthdays and such. It's not perfect, but maybe E. Musk will buy it and make it perfect. VD~ Steve

That would be wonderful. My only negative. I resize most of my pictures but there are times when I want to take a quick pix on my phone and upload it. Contests and the like would benefit.
