Here are some pictures taken of practise on circle 1 during OT competition.

A lot of truly beautiful airplanes...
But...the finish on Mark's Avenger must be seen to be believed... a real 20 pointer.

PS:  I have quite a number of pictures also...if I can figure out how to post them tomorrow.

I agree Mark's Avenger in one of the most beautiful model airplanes I have ever seen.  It has to be seen to be believed.  It really shows what a professional custom auto painter can do when time and money are no object.  Hats off to Mark.

Kaz was flying a classic Japanese design "Silver Star", powered by a ST .60. Straight wing. nice looking design that flew very nice.

Thanks guys,, I am VERY flattered and Honored by all the comments I had on the Avenger, I just wish that Saturday whoever put a hole in the top of the inboard wing would have fessed up,,, ???
Keith Trostle provided me with an Array of stickers to choose from to cover the hole,, it now wears a Blue FAI badge on the upper left wing, sigh,,

I was Honored not only be being awarded 20 appearance points, But I was also Humbled to receive the pilots choice award as well..
thank you all, VERY much,
Now,, just need a bigger tank, more power, more practice,,

Thanks Andy,, I am honored that so many people appreciated my efforts.
as to money,, its not so much money as patience,, and time,, Rough estimate I have something like 250 hours in the finish from bare wood up ( of course I did have that minor, *cough cough* miscue the first time around that required a complete resanding,,

Wayne, its not even worth trying, with pearl and candy,, it would make it look worse,, thats one of the costs of this sort of finish,,
as a positive note,, Thanks to Keith Trostle ,,,,Now I have a really cool FAI sticker on the wing so I can pretend I went to the worlds,, I think that should land me either a major motion picture deal, or at the least several hot women,, dont you think? LL~

Mark : Sorry to hear about that...

3 things spring to mind...

1: Its unlikely a fellow flier would press on the wing knowing its a tissued surface we all know from an early age not to do that.. - If your tissue is anything like mine its fairly taute and not something that can be punctured "easily" by gently pressing. You would have to really push it..

2: Knowing the above - I also think its "unlikely" a fellow flier would punture it and not admit it to the builder what is more probably given the above comment is that it was a child or a spectator. Both of whom wouldnt know any better.

3: Perhaps something fell out of someone's top pocket unknown to them.

In anycase - battle damage is great to have - Just think about recanting the story of the " Worlds sticker " and how it helped overcome adversity of being a 20 pointer and having a hole put in it, after an arduous journey to Tuscon! I say live it up.

" now let me tell you the story about that sticker young fellow.................. "

yeppers,, thats where it will be,,
whatever it was had to be sharp and hard,, its polyspan on the wing,, and every time I look at that sticker I will remember VSC and the absolute joy of having my plane appreciated and enjoyed, and meeting all the great people I did,, so, its not all bad.

For some reason, that doesn't look like the same grass area that they used for past VSC appearance judging. ???

It wasn't.  The usual spot was under repair/re-seeding, so they moved us further out in back.  (At least they remembered to keep the sprinklers turned off!)

Clint, thanks, I was VERY Honored by its acceptance,, The Pilots choice award now has the prime real estate on my wall of awards.... Nothing is as significant as being voted "best" on the day by your peers,, They are the ones who know what it takes,, ( and where to look for the flaws ) ON a related note, I am glad I made the bottom pretty too,, lots of people wanted to look at the bottom,,,,,,  H^^
