I'll be in N'Awleans this coming Friday and Saturday. ;D The "little woman" has a new job and they are flying both of us to the soggy city for an "all hands" meeting. She has to work, I don't! ;D #^ 8)
Flying in Thursday and out on Sunday. Our hotel is in the French Quarter. There must be SOMETHING to do? (Keep it clean, guys; married 31 years, the wife is along, and I want to keep it that way n1)
Last time I was there, I was 11. And with my parents. Some guys never get a break.

Just to give you an idea, I went to a "nice" restaurant while I was there. Someone had dumped in the urinal. When I went to leave, I found that someone had shot the windshield of my car with an air rifle. I've never been back.

Daylight hours might fix at least some of that. Candlelight dinner at IHOP (or in the hotel) should take care of the rest. You won't believe the humidity...OMG! H^^ Steve

Too short a time to really visit.
1. Get the horse and buggy ride at jackson square. that is in the quarter. get on one of the buggys that have 9-10 people. the difference in price is amazing. the tour around the quarter is very good.
2. while by jackson square walk to the french market. on the way there visit margaritaville. greatest burgers in town
3. Also in the other direction (walking) there is bubba gumps food and not expensive. close by is the southern paralines store. don't eat one if you are diabetic.
4. If you come back there is a controline club in city park with full cement circles.
5. Do not go the the french market and let your wife shop alone.

Only live 185 miles north of New Orleans, but don't get there as much as I would like.
In the Quarter, Felix's is the place for all kinds of seafood for a reasonable price.
For a "white table cloth" dining experience, it is Commander's Palace.
Across from the Cathedral is the Cafe Dumonde for coffee and local pastry.

Hi Larry
I live in New Orleans and there are many things to do and see when you are here. Since you are staying in the Quarter you will be close to Riverwalk and the Aquarium. Those are nice places to see. There are nightly dinner cruises on a paddle boat down the river. There is MUCH MORE to the French Quarter than just Bourbon Street. THere is a great french market there and many shops you would enjoy. Bourbon Street is a tourist trap area and when my wife and I go to the quarter, we never go to Bourbon St. Jackson Square is a great place to walk around in and see all the street performers and artist. If you like to gamble, there is a Harrah's close to the quarter also.
There are lots of really fun clean things to do in New Orleans. Make sure you take a trolly ride down St. Charles Avenue if you get the chance and see all the old homes....you should not be bored with all there is to do.
Welcome to our town...
Mike

Thanks one and all! 8) Avoiding the French Quarter and Bourbon Street is out, as that is where our hotel is! Thanks for the flying invites, but no car, and probably wiped out after flying in (arms really tired LL~)
After a little on-line search, I think the Aquarium, French Market, Riverwalk are on the list. I will add Jackson Square per the above recommendations. With only 2days plus various functions to attend, I think I'll be lucky to do all that.
