Nitrate Dope
« on: April 18, 2008, 12:19:05 PM »
I have never used Nitrate Dope before so I have purchased a quart to use on my Brodak Magician. My question is, can I use butyrate thinner with Nitrate dope? My source for dope does not list a nitrate thinner..

Thanks..
Dan

Don: No problem. Dope thinner is dope thinner, it will work with either.

All Model shops here in England sell only Nitrate dope, it has a tendency to crack and craze! Much prefer Butyrate when I can get it.

All the best

Dan, I've used Brodak's nitrate on several models. When I was ordering, They suggested using the nitrate thinner with their nitrate dope. Initially when I first used the product I was using the butyrate thinner. I then switched to the nitrate thinner they offered. I've since used up all the nitrate thinner I purchased. I then started using the butyrate thinner again. I haven't had any problems that occured. I keep a 50/50 mix in a separate jar as well. I figured it would of turned into gel but it hasn't. One problem that I've found is that they don't always keep a large quanity of the nitrate and nitrate thinner in the qts.  Good luck , Ken
