Videos for KOI
« on: January 20, 2014, 08:18:29 AM »
During the weekend I was able to get only two videos of the flying on my iPad because I ran out of space.

Here is half of Curt Contrata's first official. I ran out of space after the horizontal 8s.

And here is John Simspon's 2nd round flight in classic in some fairly nasty winds.

I had a great time this weekend, enjoyed seeing everybody and flying with you all! Can't wait until next year!

This new fangled electronic stuff is something else.  The first video came through fine.   Keep getting error on second video.  Looked like the take off  was a little long on the ground.  Thanks for the video.

Ah, today the second video of John S. came through.   A little side note that most don't realize or I see them not doing is like Curt taking off on the down wind side of the circle.   A young man that left us way to early, Allen Brickhaus emphasized taking off just before you get to the judges on the up wind side of the circle.   Until you try it you won't believe the difference in the take off of any plane.   Think about it, the wind is blowing on the tail of the plane and what does that do?    At a 1/4 lap you should be breaking ground in a very gradual climb to be at altitude just as you get to the judges.    I know it helps my take offs.  Just remember no up on the elevator.   This also eliminates that 1/2 lap at start of the pattern.   Thanks for the videos.

Congrat's to Curt on his win! Curt's smile in the photo should say it all. It was great having him back among us along with his charming companion Barbara.

Also worth mentioning is the fact that last year they returned to having the Advanced winner in the fly-off along with the top 3 expert.

Young Sam Niebel won Advanced (Congrats Sam!) and also had to brave those fly-off winds, so I want give the Sam a shout out too, he was a real trooper and put his plane through a very respectable pattern without any drama, a feat in and of itself, even though he didn't win. Good on ya Sam!

Unless you like purchasing propellers, do NOT do that, especially on a windy day.
