VICTORY FLIES!!! flight report/new plane
« on: June 17, 2006, 06:34:02 PM »
This is the third version I've built of this airplane. This one is the best so far. Apparently I built it straight or possibly crooked just right, anyway it flew good right off the bat. No flap tweaking or weight adding was done or deemed necessary. The main gear are toed out too much and the plane decelerates enough once the wheels hit the ground to make it come to rest on it's nose. I guess that's a trim issue. And I still need to finish the repair I performed when I cut into the model to solder a control link I forgot to do when building it.
And there is an issue with blisters forming on the fillets. I tried repairing them but they came back so I figure some sun and fresh air will get the dope completely gassed off-then I'll fix the fillets.(only two small spots-not bad)

Over all I'm extremely thrilled to have a stunter again. I've been flying a Profile Pathfinder I built and  I've gotten pretty good at flying it, but VICTORY is light years ahead in all ways.

The numbers:
Wing Span 54 or 55 inches or so.
Wing area  Around 640 sq. in.
Weight 56 ounces.--------O.K. 58.
Engine--Big Art ST 51/11/5 zinger prop.

It would be appropriate here to mention that without this forum to rely on for finishing recommendations the plane wouldn't have come out this pretty. Thanks Sparky, Bill Little, Randy Powell for your help and encouragement.

Yes Vicky will be at SIG. I'm going to try to get lots of flights on it in the next few days. It flies good....but I need to warm up to it.

Hey Ray----I got my Snapper yesterday and have saved many stars to put on it. I'm going to try to make you proud!

I got to see Victory last night and fly with Frank. Let me congratulate ya Frank. It is a great flying airplane and the engine runs are very nice. It is a very pretty plane and don't let Frank kid you, it didn't blush anywhere. When its rubbed out it is going to be a really sweet dope finish. But to see Frank flying a plane that really works was very nice. He used to be my coach 25 years ago when I flew stunt. He has already been able to fly a pattern with it at least as good as anything I ever saw him fly when he flew an aweful lot.  This is a plane any of us would love to fly. Great job Frank!  j1

Thanks for that dazzling post Bob...This is the first plane since I've come back that actually does what a stunter should do. They say 3 is the charm.

Your coaching has done me very well..............I'm pretty sure that thanks to you I won't embarrass myself at SIG this weekend.
