Title: Vess Props
Post by: Dan McEntee on October 17, 2010, 06:11:13 PM
I work part time at a local hobby shop, and we started carrying this brand of prop a couple of weeks ago. Really nice looking finish, scimitar shape, checked out right at 6 inch pitch on the Prather Pitch Gauge and was  balanced right out of the package and reasonably priced for this day and age. I got a 13-6 to try on my ST.60 and a 13-7 to try on my Saito .56 The results are .....................................
MAN!!! WHOOO HOOO!!1 What a difference it makes! If you fly St.60s at all you know that the engine has a very specific sound when it is running and is happy, and right from the start I knew this was going to work. I have a Cardinal that is on the heavy side at 72 ounces, and flies pretty well, but it took a while to find a good prop for it without breaking the bank for the carbon fiber jobs and they are hard to get now sometimes. I tried and Brodak 13-6 on the model and that worked out very well. I thought I had gotten as good as I was going to get with this particular airplane. I put up a flight with the Brodak flight today to get a base line feel for performance, then bolted on the Vess prop. Man, what  difference! #^ #^ y1  Just by changing the prop, it really woke the model up and even helped the corner. The air was pretty dead today, and no help from the wind for line tension, even hitting prop wash a lot and the model was pretty solid everywhere. And keep in mind that this is a 72 ounce foam wing Cardinal we're talking about here. If you are on the fence pondering  on whether to try one or not, they sure get my endorsement!!! y1 y1
   Type at you later,

What other sizes do they offer? Is there a 10.5 X 4.5 or 10.5 X 5 ?

Check out my column in the May 2010 issue of Flying Models, pages 24 and 25.  Nice props.

I have been talking about these for a couple years, they are a fantastic made prop, nice finish, well balanced. Glad you found a home for one.
