Playboys coming to Huntersville
« on: May 30, 2006, 08:49:57 PM »
I plan to bring two Playboys to Huntersville. This one and another in bones to show the construction. I will have components of the kit for inspection.
I will also have Powermaster fuel ( the four GMA blends ) for sale.  Also some kits of the Argus, leather fillets, motor mounts, and some more goodies.

Bill, it sounds like you're going to have some serious packing to do.

The playboy looks very nice.

Bill,

It just has to have a Playboy Bunny on the tail as a tribute to the late
Roger Barrett.  He always had one on his Playboy's vertical fin!

Bill your craftsmanship is beautiful! However by the looks of the picture I am not sure you have the adjustable lead out slot far enough aft. Approx line rake is 1 inch behind the hypothetical CG.

What do you think?

Robert,
The origional Playboy plans I have show the leadouts over and under as in the Thunderbird. They were centered on the spar. What I have done is use an adjustable with about 1/4" play forward and aft of that point. I ALSO added a feature that allows the builder to bring them further forward OR aft. The builder has to decide if he wants them that way. The parts needed to do this are in the kits. Because of the wing  leading edge sweep the slot gets into the wind if the slot is brought any further forward. Aft there is no problem. Actually if the plane is built with the leadouts as shown and then they need to be lengthened it can be done easily due to the way the tips are made.

Bill,

You can tell from the Playboy it is definitely the forerunner of both the Minado and Continental.  I still like the lines of the Playboy a bit better than those of the Minado however.  It's also obvious that Tom dropped the I beam to create the Continental and used the extended long low look.  I guess that's why he had to use a ST .40 and a 9-6 3 blade prop.  When I build mine I'll exted the gear some to use 11" props.

Robert,

Someone who can innovatively engineer a kit like the Playboy and build such a beautifull example shoud be an ACE even if he's a new pilot here don't you think??

Hey Bill,
Great job on the Playboy. Looking forward to seeing what kind of graphics you apply, which should really enhance the look.
Good Luck with it.
