Vampire for OTS
« on: April 05, 2009, 05:29:04 AM »
Am thinking of powering a Brodak "Vampire" (40-inch span Old Timer) with an FP 20.  Am wondering if a 2-oz. fuel tank is large enough to complete the OTS pattern.  Perhaps 2-1/2 oz.?  Any thoughts?

Hey Mike - Since you have the space, I'd opt for the biggest tank that fits, say 3.5 oz.  You can short tank it with stunt fuel, or add as much nitro as you need and not worry about fuel consumption.  Sort of avoiding the wall.  Tom H.

Mike

2.5 should be fine for OTS , But as Tom H said , a bigger tank will be even better, and more open to other fuel types. I use a FP25  on S1 Ringmaster  using Powermaster 10% nitro 22% oil 1/2 syn  1/2 castor ,Run pretty much all out in a fast two stroke . Runs about 6.5  minutes , plenty for OTS, but a little tight for Full pattern . If you have room, I would opt for bigger tank ,

The more nitro you use the more fuel you will require, the more 2 - 4  break you run the more fuel you will require   and on and on ..

I'm disappointed Mike...I would have thought you'd be a four bolt .29 type of guy!

Ward-o:

I wuz ... 'til I wore out my last 4-bolt sand-cast .29 in the old Boxcar Chief.  Ain't got no mo'.

Besides, I'm kinda' partial to the FP .20, 9-4 prop, yada-yada thing.
