What year did Fox
« on: January 22, 2015, 02:34:54 PM »
Maybe one of the Fox lover's out there knows. What year did Fox start putting muffler mounting lugs on the 35 stunt crankcase? I did a few searches and could not come up with a pictorial time line like O.S. max has.

I have a couple of 35's both with mounting lugs and was wondering about what year they could be.

Thanks.

Rich

1975 was the first year for the lugs. Not many used them as they crushed the case if to tight and made the piston liner warp and screwed up the piston fit.

According to my info 1970 was the first year for the mounting above and below the exhaust stack, and 1975 was the first year for the mounting ears on the rear of the exhaust stack.

I think most people know at this point, but for sure don't use the over/under muffler mount. The fore/aft are OK if you JB-weld some brass tubing to extend them all the way to the face of the exhaust. The 50th Anniversary type, which nearly identical to the later ST46, is excellent as is.

Yes 1970 was the first year for the over under boss for mounting a muffler but they were NOT drilled or threaded until 1972, just another tidbit to tell the year of the engine.
