I recently acquired this absolute jewel of an engine, but haven't a clue what it is. Anyone, anyone????

I can't help with this one, but I saw pictures of a series of tiny diesels a decade or so ago including an .001 displacement (one-tenth the displacement of a TeeDee .010, the tiniest engine I have seen in person). Made in Europe someplace. The one in your photo looks closer to an .010.

It's a pretty little thing. The guy who runs this web site -- www.modelenginenews.org -- would probably be interested and may even know what it is.

Larry - I have a similar one. It's a .12 CC (.007 CID) Diesel made by Gustave Zapletal in the Czech Repiblic.
It is number 50 of 50, the last one made.
I have never been able to get it to run.

Is a diesel still a diesel if it wont run ?
Try and get it to burp on primes, (about 1/2 a Drop of fuel ?. .Maybe 1 ). If itll do that , your underway .
Open needle one turn at a time till it runs.Had an .09 paw . book said three turns , alway read the instructions !?
45 minutes later , closed it then opened 1 at a time . Magic. ? well FIVE TURNS actually . missprint ? muterizeation .

I'd say it is a "Cox" engine......certainly it's made to a tee like cox engines.

PROFI made a bunch of engines that had crankcases like Coxes.

Bob,
I remember reading somewhere that ultra small diesels need very high ether content. I think one person used just ether and 25% oil.

Believe me, I tried everything.
Different fuels, different props, the works - all I ever got were a few pops.

I look and look for this stuff and when I find it I can't afford it, Then I read stuuf like this where you guys just come across it or got it in a box of junk. DANG!!!

Just to rub it in Randy, I got a box of stuff off the bay. I bid on it just to get it started and won. I got the package and started looking thru it. All kinds of odds and ends. But, then I notice an engine case and a few more parts. When I got done I had a McCoy .049 glo engine like I always wanted as a kid. It had compression and the plug was good. On to the bench and it runs. Sure made my little OK Cub sound sick. What surprised me was how well it restarted. H^^

I've had about three small diesels which I could not get a pop out of. I couldn't see anything wrong with them. I have an Arne Hende .5 cc Drone, and an AE .5cc. Both start and run fine on Eric Clutton fuel. I need to get them in airplanes. So long as they are not in airplanes, I feel like I cannot buy another little diesel. :-[

That is one pretty diesel engine. :)

I'm now flying a replica Elfin diesel, which has been reduced to 0.002 cuin. Made in jolly olde England.
Now, the only trouble I had was the needle valve body. Was leaking air even though it was seated and tight. Finally sealed it with silicone (the blue stuff from auto supply).
Fuel for these little ones isn't magic. Equal parts kerosene, ether, and castor oil. Ether percentage isn't critical. Main thing is lots of castor.

The "box of junk" happened to be a very rare, and exceptional, 120 film, Tessar lens, copal shutter, rangefinder, folding camera. It was a fair trade with my very oldest friend. }:-p
