Has anyone ever used an ultrasonic cleaner tank instead of a crock pot/antifreeze to clean their engines? Micro-Mark sells one that is said to be suitable for cleaning RC engines. It would have an advantage that the cleaning solution doesn't have the disposable problems of anti-freeze.

Yes,
They work well, but they will remove paint most of the time and anodize some of the time. Place the engine parts in a parts basket and keep it at least 1 inch from the bottom of the ultrasonic cleaner. You mave have to clean the head several times if it is heavily coated in old castor oil varnish. Do not place paper gaskets in the ultrasonic cleaner.
