I was hoping I'd get mine today, oh well it'll get here when it gets here. What engine is the popular choice going to be ??? Evo 36 (when it comes in) Mag 36, AT 36 ???? B 40 ??

Leester: I've got a Thunder Tiger .36 in mine. I've seen
the new Evolution .36, and I think this would be an excellent
choice. Great looking engine, and a great deal at $80.00.
Of course, the Brodak .40 is a great choice, as well.

I'm very pleased with my three other B40's and just bought a 4th to go with my GN. It will be mated up with HydroFlo muffler newly minted from Scott Dinger welding shop. Have not decided whether to finish directly over the SLC covering or use silkspan?
What are others doing?

Alright people: For those of you who are not familiar with how a
Gieseke Nobler (or any of Bob G's planes) the bottom of the
fuselage IS supposed to be stepped. All of Bob's planes are
designed that way.   Steve

Where is the balance point,  and more info on tightening the covering as well .
Have never used any iron on coverings. Need iron settings and such so I don't burn covering.  Thanks,

Gil: Looking at my UHP Gieseke Nobler Kit plans which shows the bottom of the fuselage stepped ( I never paid attention to that before ) it balances approx 2 7/8" behind the leading edge.

Mine arrived today , Excellent a big step up component kit. Big decision to paint directly  on SLC or  cover with light silkspan and Polycrilic????

What's the drill for covering kit with silkspan on top of the plastic? I'd hate to mess up a beautiful plane like this component kit. Can't bend my mind around painting the plastic. Painted monokote I've seen, always looks dull and without class. Appropriate surely for knock about ARFs. But this kit is way to nice.

I did the open bays on my Avanti this way. I did a  3 coats of Nitrate on any raw wood, and 1 coat only on the open bays where I had SLC, then put silkspan over it the usual way.

The usual way - > Cut silkspan for the bays to size, sprayed with water from old Windex bottle, lay it on the plane, (bottom panels first) brushed down edges with some really thinned Nitrate (like 3 to 1) let it dry and pull tight, then put on one wet coat of dope over everything, then 1 coat with some of Randy's Aero Zinc filler, sanded smooth, and one final thin coat of dope. Ready for primer. Worked great.

Open bays are darn near bullet proof with the SLC under the silkspan!

Thanks Eric,  I will have to give it a try when I get my "G Nobler" started.  At least I think that is what is in the humongous box that is in the bedroom right now.  DOC Holliday

Putting a silkspan finish onto SLC film is no different than any other
silkspan finish, except you are starting with a perfect surface under
the silkspan. Silkspan, dope, paint, clear and you're done.

If you are wondering what painted SLC looks like, it looks like paint.
It's shiny and smooth. To see what one looks like check out the
photos in the classified section. That plane is painted SLC, and it
is very shiny; and light.

Is this the SLC covering (transparent) which Phil Cartier supplies with his kits?

Is the slc covering fuel proof as is?

My kit just arrived- opened to inspect and was delighted with the contents-
One question - Curious to understand why a bearing tube was installed in the elevator horn - however the flap horn did not have any bushing.

It looks like the bearing tube is too long to fit in the fuselage. I believe the one piece of rod with the washer soldered in it is for the elevator and it definately won't fit. I believe I'll change it to a ball link like the rest of the connections. Instructions didn't say much. If I screw up one, I can correct it
on the second one. Probably will wait for the EVO 36 for one. I was tinkering with the idea of putting a VF40 with Randy's header muffler in the other.

Can you say "Rocket Ship"?  I was thinking about maybe a VF25; this thing's only 510 squares.

I too think I will wait until the EVO engine gets here.  Some on here say you can't have too much power.  Can you imagine stuffing a 90 in the nose of the Nobler!  Of course it would take a new fuselage I beleive.  DOC Holliday

The bent piece of music wire with the soldered washer is for
the elevator horn. A ball-link will not fit in the rear of this plane.
Tom Morris came up with the elevator horn/music wire solution.
It may take a little trimming to get the exact fit.  Steve
