was looking through old pictures of my models and found this one.
about 10 years ago i cut a 25. sized model of the Ugly Stik ( The famous R/C trainer) and converted to control line
The wing was built without the dihedral and fixed flaps. Bellcrank on the fuselage centerline.
Engine was a brazilian CB 25 c/l and the wing was attached with rubber bands as the R/C version.
Flew very stable, landed by itself, and could perform loops and inverted flight.
Nice model for training newbies.
Unfortunately i sold the model and lost track of it.
called Ukye Stick

Hi Fred
Ward Van Duzer published the Ukie Stick in the February 1989 issue of Flying Models. It is my understanding that alimited kit run was done also, as I have a complete kit from his estate that I'm hoping will become a collaborative effort of the CL bunch at the MCRC......
Have fun..

hello Peabody! never heard of that, do you have a screen shot of the plan? just curious
funny we have chosen the same name!

Several years ago I scratch built an Ugly Stik 20 wing and a Primary Force looking fuselage for it. No flaps and it flew the pattern very well.

Here is a scan from the magazine....
If you wish, I will email you the article...
Thanks

Nice plan! indeed itīs a look alike stick.
my model is the actual stick less dihedral and flaps. same moments, same airfoil and outline.
this one on the plan have flat bottom airfoil, so no inverted flight capability
thanks for sharing!

Would not take much to make that a full symmetrical air foil. In past years I have seen RC pattern planes converted to CL and they flew quite well. H^^

Ward designed the Ukie Stick as a TRAINER, not a stunt trainer.
Len Neumann designed and kitted, by Custom Models, a plane called "Das Stunter". Simple plane, with viable "numbers" and an upright engine for 35 to 51 size engines....our friend Brian built one and it carried him through Advanced.
Pat Johnson drew the plans.....2 sheets, $20.00.
Very similar to the RC Ugly Stick, only a control line designed model from step one.
Have fun!

Was the "Das Stunter" the one in American Aircraft Modeler with a stick and tissue look?

Thatīs what i thought when i saw the flat bottom airfoil, should be pretty stable indeed

Rich, are the full size plans available anywhere?

Rich, are the full size plans available anywhere?
If it was in Flying Models after 1965, they should be available on line from the new owner of the plans service, Thayer Syme. Google flying models plans service and see what you get. I don't have a link saved on this computer. Hopefully he'll be able to bring the magazine back also.
Type at you later,
Dan McEntee

Riffing on this Ugly Stick theme, here is the Das Ugly Stunter by Matt Neumann. Cool, simple plane.
