I remember that someone was looking for one of these McCoys jsut the other day and I cant remember exactly what site I seen it at.

I threw a 10$ bid on it jsut for the heck of it. Its looks pretty neat.

That was the first "Big" engine I ever owned.

Went from Cox .049's to this big monster of a engine. Put it on a Akromaster. I never could get it to run right on my Cox fuel. Ya think that was my problem??? I did not have a clue what I was doing as a kid, and not much has changed. LL~

Those are actually good running engines. A little heavy.
(basicly)All internal parts same as Red Heads except piston is Dykes ring in this later version.
The O.D. of the sleeve/liner is different but can be adapted to the Red Head.

When time allows am fitting up a Dykes ring top to go on Red head case.....I need more hands HB~> HB~>

The size is on the mounting lug but don't see it in the pics.

*Some of them* are good running engines. Some of them were terrible and almost unrunnable as they came. That was the problem - you never knew what you might get.

I like 'em! I currently have 6 .35's - 5 C/L & 1 R/C.
FYI - the .35 weighs in at 9.5 oz.
Don't judge the compression by flipping, with the Dyke's ring the piston seals under cyl. pressure.

Art Adamisin told me that many had a molding problem on the back crankcase end  plate.  They had a "bump" that needed to be removed and fitted to the aft end of the McCoy.  This bump caused some crankcase air bleeding and run problems.  Saw Jim Lynch with his pretty Volunteer at the St. Louis MO contest in the summer of 1974 for the first time.  What a great sounding motor he had and a very pretty Volunteer.  Jim is now finishing a new Volunteer for Nostalgia and it will be "so nice".

Like this...

They were the "Series 21", also known as "Blackheads".

The one in the box has never been run (NIB), the other now has an OS needle...I broke the McCoy one.

George

Edit: Took a closer look at the one on the auction site, it has RJL stamped lightly on the lug.

And here I always thought her name was Rita.

I used a McCoy Series 21 40 for a bit a very long time ago.

Hi David,

As to making a "Hybrid".  The sleeve/piston is a direct swap in for the Red Head on the.29.  No mods needed.  The piston/rod is a direct swap on the .35-.40.  The jug from the .40 Series 21 will not fit the Red Head case without machining, but you can simply use the piston/rod.  I have done several each of the .29-.35-.40 so far, and no machining needed.  My first one was dropping a Series 21 jug and piston/rod into a Red Head .29 which I used for a long time in OTS.

The .19 will only work with machining the piston for the  Series 21 wrist pin.  The Red Head .19 has only two bolts holding the jug to the case, while the Series 21 .19 has three (like all the other McCoys).  No easy fix for the .19.
