Types of Model Airplanes
« on: December 15, 2015, 07:53:48 PM »
Joe Just Just woke up the old gray matter a little when he mentioned having a carrier plane that had not been flown in years because no local event exist for I.  I remember when I joined the Flying Eagles rat racing was just starting, there was combat and some stunt.   Went to my first NATS in 64 and what an awakening other than what I read in the magazine.   The Meriwether's had planes for speed, team race, combat, stunt and scale.   That isn't counting the other events they had to fly for the individual age championships.  Wayne Meriwether was crowned Junior National Champion.   But, seeing indoor flying models almost blew my mind with how slow they flew.   The free flight models that flew in circler patterns until the dethermalizer tripped.   Wasn't much in the radio control other than the classes of radio and scale.   How many members of a local club have seen a dyna jet speed or scale fly.   I know David Smith has introduced carrier in his part of the woods.   In reality I think just getting to the circle and flying your favorite plane was what got most of us out to fly.  At my age it is hard getting to the circle on a regular basis.   Need to get my stooge done so I can get the combat wings in the air.   But what time I do get out I try to have fun even when an engine decides it doesn't want to start.   Good ole electric starters do help in that regard.   I guess I had better close as maybe this should have been put in the section at the bottom of this great forum. H^^
