Title: Two up and loving it
Post by: Scott Jenkins on August 15, 2006, 07:48:40 AM
To all,

This past weekend we had the chance to work with the local young marine group that has shown an interest in CL flying. This was their third session. We went thru the basics as a short refresher course then moved on to one up flying with a 10 minute tank. Working on altitude changes and staying even with the airplane not whipping or lagging behind the plane. These kids are really motivated and show a great amount of improvement. This group only has about 45 minutes or less of airtime for each pilot. After each pilot had two flights we grabbed the four out of the group that displayed a growing confidence and a semi relaxed approach to flying. We pulled out some old 1/2 A mouse racers and paired them up to fly two up. Those 10 minute flight getting them to work on flying high and low and changing altitude really paid off. We had them flying two up with only one mishap and that was due to a sour engine run . You should have seen them flying two up really brought out the best in them. The best part is they can't wait to do it again. Next session we will do alot more two up and then we will get them three up before the day is over.
For those of you that have not pursued contacting your local Young Marines unit www.youngmarines.com  you are letting a very able and valuable resource get away, these kids are really motivated and show alot of ability with a little coaching. There are alot of future pilots and control line flyers out there just waiting to be shown how to do it. And who knows you may feel good due to the fact that you may just have extend the pursuit of our hobby for future generations.
