Well I just think this is very innovative and clever!    Very cool accomplishment.

I remember the late Ken Willard had three 1/2A planes linked together (with some dowel).
91 years, but still going

In a related post on his TwoFer models the builder/flyer/designer explains the technology of how it all works. He clearly has CL experience as he explains the use of CL techniques like offset thrust, tip weight, leadout guide adjustment. This is really 2 elevator-only CL models linked together. My expectation is that if the line snapped both models would crash immediately given their setup configuration. Really impressive to have even thought this up, and then figured out how to make it work, then engineer it and program the radios. This is all going on a few miles from where I live, in Sunnyvale CA, so I may drop by to see it in person.

I used to fly with Ken back when we were both in the Pioneer Club.  We trained a lot of new to RC guys.  One day the two guys we had up had a midair right over the runway.  Because the two planes were turning in opposite directions, they were able to get stuck together in the air.  Ken and I took over and we found that I could fly the combined airplane as long as he held down elevator on his.  I flew it around trying to shake him loose, but eventually landed.  With my airplane level his airplane's wing was vertical, so it's wing popped off on landing.  This would have been in the early 80's, so no pictures like today.
