Can the medismal castor be used in our engines??  Yes but conditionally. While it is quite effective in lubricating the bowels, it is not so effecient in the lubricating our engines.  The extra refinement in getting the Castor to the purity level for human consumption seems to remove some of the lubricating properties needed for  our engines.  I have used it in emergencies and for tests.  It is better than nothing, (or too little lubricant).

Second question What size norvel--- also I have never owned a Norvel, so I can't comment.

Hey Marvin
It's the Norvell bushing .15
Will they take nitro? should I brake it in on a test stand or just put it in the plane and let er rip!, (uesd to be able to do that with a combat special in fact I know of people that used to brake in their Specails flat out on 25% nitro)  will the Norvel run on a bladder? What size prop, I'm thinking a 7x4 APC cut down to 6.25x4
Thanks Marvin any input would be greatly appreciated
Oh Yes thanks again for the Fox .15 parts.  started the little bugger up last year before winter and YeeHaww, I'd forgoten just how much of a screamer that little .15 was!! Thanks man!

not having ever owned one nor even been around them,  I really can't help you on the norvel 15 bushing.  Perhaps some one who knows will check in.

Hey Dwayne,

Good score on the Norvel 15!  H^^

Most any new 15 size engine, has got to be a bargain at $50.

Our LHS sold me their last Norvel .061 for $35 out the door, but wanted twice that for a Norvel .074 (they still had it last time I checked). I'd have gladly offered $50 for a .15, but they didn't have any of those left.  HB~>

Do you have an airplane in mind, for that very hot Norvel 15?

Bill

Dwayne,

I have a few NorVels in various sizes and guises. Every one of them came with very detailed operating instructions, even the earlier AME version engines. Those instructions covered fuels required for break-in and after-break-in use, break-in process (the usual for ABC/AAC/ABN type engines, pretty much), props, etc.

Following the manufacturer recommendations, you'll  will seldom go wrong. If you don't have the instructions, I might be able to scan them into a document for you.

NorVel engines are generally good runners, FAST RPM preferred, and easy to handle. Earliest metal (not the black ceramic coated sleeve) type 1/2A NorVel and BigMig engines seemed to take quite some break-in, and adjustment of the user's approach, but I haven't heard that about the ceramic ones.

And, you did get a good price!

The norvel 15 is a real powerhouse.  I would think a jr satan is kind of small, but the norvel's are light so it might work out.  Some have used them on ARF flight streak.  A larger russian F2d or and old school wodden fast airplane airplane would be a fun fool around airplane with this engine.

I cloned my kit of the Jr Satan. I had a ST X15 on it. It was the only plane that would take the Brodak 25, so I mounted the Brodak on it wanting to get some time on the engine. Still haven't flown it.
