good news? I hope so.
« on: March 14, 2011, 04:03:14 PM »
Here's a reply I received from one of my senators, (the one I seldom agree with, so this is really good if it works out.)

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Hinton:

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me on S. 223, the FAA Air Transportation Modernization and Safety Improvement Act.

Air travel in the United States should be the safest and most efficient in the world.  However, I share your concerns over unnecessary regulations on model airplanes.  On February 17, 2011, the Senate approved S. 223 with the inclusion of an amendment that would remove model airplanes from FAA regulation of unmanned aircraft.

As this legislation continues to move through the legislative process, I will be sure to keep your comments in mind.  Thank you again for getting in touch with me.

                         Sincerely,

Considering Congress never saw an activity it didn't want to regulate, this is potentially good news.

I'm kinda shaken up. We could be witnessing some sort of common sense. Needless to say, model airplanes is kinda important considering, damn near every single full scale prototype has a model airplane of some sort in it's history.

Maybe, just maybe, they are putting together the relationship between model airplane builders, and future aeronautical engineers-kinda like the late Kelly Johnson etc. etc.

I wouldn't get excited. I got the same letter from Sherrod Brown.  If I was to guess the FAA will mandate just like the EPA does now.
Thanks

I think that this says it best about our senate.
If they were placed in charge of the Saharra desert , there would be a shortage of sand in 5 years. Don't expect efficiency or wisdom from any senator,.....ever.

This is exactly why each and every one of us that replied to this, including me, has replied with great skepticism!
and I think we are all correct to do so.  However, it may be a (very) dim light at the end of the tunnel.

While I would certainly hope that a senator from Ohio would be smart enough to support the modeling community in general, I dont trust a word they are saying.

The recent cuts most states are aiming at, have nothing to do with cleaning up their own act, policies and procedures and goes straight for the jugular of the people they are supposed to represent. In other words take more money, give less rights and benefits etc. As if it is the populations fault that health care is expensive. Insurance is inequitable, but they boast some heavy profit margins too! Seems to me that insurance, should be more about "paying the price" and liability and less about profit!

Seems to me that running any major company is more about keeping shareholders happy, than actually producing something that customers are happy with...

Here's what I got: Dear Mr. Stiles,

Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns regarding model aviation provisions in S. 223, the "Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Transportation Modernization and Safety Improvement Act." It is good to hear from you.

As you may know, the Senate recently considered S. 223, the "FAA Air Transportation Modernization and Safety Improvement Act," which reauthorizes the FAA. This bill encompasses a number of issues ranging from funding for the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) to Next Generation Air Traffic Control systems. This legislation is extremely important to the safe and effective functioning of our airplanes, airports, and air traffic control towers. Included in this measure was an amendment offered by Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) that prohibits the implementation of new rules and regulations regarding the use of model aircraft for recreational purposes. I was pleased to see this amendment passed and included in the final version of S. 223. As an avid outdoorsman, I understand the importance of recreational activities that simultaneously allow people to enjoy the outdoors and participate in an educational activity like model aviation. You will be pleased to know that S. 223 was passed in the Senate with my support by a vote of 87-8 and has been referred to the House of Representatives for further action. Please be assured that I will keep your thoughts in mind should similar legislation come before me in the Senate.

Again, thank you for contacting me on this very important issue.  Please be sure to visit our website at www.boozman.senate.gov.  I look forward to your continued correspondence.

Sincerely,

John Boozman
U.S. Senator

here is the letter I got.

Dear Robert,

Thank you for contacting me regarding Senator Inhofe's amendment to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization, S. 223, which restricts regulation of model aircraft aviation.

As you know, S. 223 originally contained language that included model aircraft aviation in new airspace regulations.  However, Senator Inhofe amended the FAA reauthorization bill, S. 223, to bar the FAA from regulating model airplanes.  This amendment passed unanimously and was included in the Senate passed version of S. 223.

I will continue to support this amendment and will monitor it throughout the legislative process to try to ensure that it is included in final legislation.

Again, thank you for contacting me.  I look forward to continuing our conversation on facebook (www.facebook.com/SenatorBlunt) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/RoyBlunt) about the important issues facing Missouri and the country.  I also encourage you to visit my website (blunt.senate.gov) to learn more about where I stand on the issues and sign-up for my e-newsletter.

Sincere regards,

Roy Blunt
United States Senator
