Hello Pilots
Today i finished the modified Twister. I will be heading out to the field to
get some flying time in. The project took me five months.
Modifications:
Half ribs in wing , extended the fuselage three inches. I increased the
numbers to the stabalizers 1 1/2" longer. And added wing landing
gear.
The paint is Auto Air Colors with Polyurethane Cearcoat. The auto air paints
do not dry very well just as Randy Powell had mentioned. And i did use my
heat gun to cure still did not help. I will not be using auto air for base coats
in the future.
Engine is a Magnum .36 with Randy Smith NVA and Tube Muffler, Thanks
Randy. Tank is a 4oz. Sullivan Plastic mounted with j bolts.
I would also like to thank Bill Little for taking the time to help me with my
e mails to him on how to apply silkspan with nitrate . He was a great help.
Finished wieght - 48oz. It's my first plane but i learned alot. Im hooked
now. ;D

A little heavy, but if this is your first plane... Do you restore Ferraris or something? Very nice job. Now, no screw ups with flying it.
-
Looks real good, Bryan! Keep an eye on those quick links on the pushl rods..
Glad I could be of some help. Good Luck!

Very nice Bryan!! I really like the colors and the landing gear in the wing, hope it flies great for you!!
-
Looks great! Do you have any pics of the wing w/ landing gears mods before covering?? I am slowly working on one that will resemble a P-51B when done and am considering wing mounted gear.
-
Nice.
I have GOT to get working on mine. Wings and tail feathers are covered, ready to install. Fuelsage is doped to seal, will prime and paint with Rustoleum when the thing is assembled. Evo .36 in the box.

Looks good Bryan, I like the paint scheme you came up for it H^^

Thanks Clayton , I just have alot of time on my hands. There is some mistakes you just
can't see them in the pics.
Bill L. I am going to use the 90 deg. Wire with soldered wire keepers from now on. It
just seems safer and lighter. Thanks for the help Bill Little.
Bill Heher - I don't have any pics of my wing building but i can tell you how i did them.
I have the DVD "How to Build I-Beam Wings" by Bill Werwage and in there he has a
methode on how he uses copper wire to adhere his wired landing gear to the I-Beam
structure. He drill's multiple 1/16" holes on each side of the landing gear mount then
uses copper wire to tie them on. Once secure he brushes epoxy over the stucture.
Even though i did not use a I-beam wing you can still use this technique on any wing
with a good sturdy wire mount.
Thanks Matt and Pinecone and to the others your help has been great. Good Flying

Nice! The Magnum is a great match to a Fancherized Twister like yours (and mine).
FWIW, I use an OS .46LA muffler on mine, .272" venturi, 10-22 Powermaster, Thunderbolt idle bar plug, and Thunder Tiger 11 x 4.5 prop. This is a super good prop, giving lots of line tension!!!! Cheap, too, at $11/6. I did have the .36 start without the battery attached on an official flight this weekend. A first for me! I wasn't sure how to shut it off, but pinched the muffler pressure line, so it quit lean. It restarted fine. I'm using a Hayes 4 oz tank plumbed and mounted just as Danny Dirt does with the 3 oz version on his .21FP's. Launch at 9,600 to 9,900, with 59' or 60' eye to eye lines. See the picture. The rudder was somewhat "revised" recently! :X
Let us know how that Evo prop works for you...after you try the TT 11 x 4.5. H^^ Steve

Terrific job, Bryan. If this is your FIRST plane, I can't wait to see your 10th or 15th.
Very nice color scheme, and the wing mounted gear gives the plane a whole new look.
Good luck with the test flights, and report back as to how it goes.
Cheers.

Bryan,
Man that's a great looking twister!! #^ I wish mine could have looked so good! You've got a great power package there that will take you beyond the capabilities of this plane.
Very nice finish and color scheme, I like it!
Please keep us posted on your first flights.
