Twin Pathfinder by Gordan Delaney

This was added to Horby's post about the best profile for precision aerobatic.

As far as Gordan's Twin Pathfinder goes he gave RSM permission to kit the model about 3 years ago. We have done a number of them for people who asked for them but have not yet added it to our line of kits.

If anyone is interested in having one or more please drop me a line at eric@rsmdistribution.com If there is sufficient interest we will do a run of them. For those who would prefer to use electric power I can easily set up the cut files to do the nacelles that way. Just let me know.

Within 2 days I received 5 messages for folks who were interested in getting one of these models.

For that reason I will be doing a limited production run of the Twin Pathfinder in September. If anyone else is interested in adding their name to the list please  let me know ASAP so that I can put you on the list. I will hold off on the run until September 6th so please let me know before that date.

What power plants are guys using on the plane?

Also, I got the order today (dang that was fast).
The Tiger muffler fit the K&B 61 to a T. Not so the Fox.
I beveled the opening on each enc a bit where the exhust enters the
muffler to get a bit better flow in to it.

fired it up in the back yard andsounds nice.............

Gordy's original had two FP15s and worked really well.  I suspect that two FP25s or LA25s would be OK but might make trimming a bit more difficult.
Two LA15s would probably work OK but I believe them to be a little less powerful than the FP's.

I have two FP15's to put on mine...They may be getting a little harder to find now since they are not being currently manufactured.

for what it's worth, night try the ASP 21's.
would have to get Lee's Machine shop to do up venturies as they are RC motors.
I have had a couple of those and they are strong running motors. (40 bucks each to boot.)

       I couldn't resist ordering a kit after Bob Hunt's testament to the twin Pathfinder.
       I'm thinking of a pair of Fox 15 BB schnuerles since I have some in my "inventory"! I'm running one on a Ringmaster Jr. with Powermaster GMA 10/22 fuel upped to 27% lube. A very consistent runner.
       Don't know yet the weight difference between the FP 15 and Fox 15. Can the twin Pathfinder handle some added weight (assuming the Fox is heavier) without drastically changing the trim and perform, 'as advertised'?

I think John Miller had a couple of 25's on one.  Maybe He will tell us!

My personal guess is that it could handle the power without any problems but The extra weight would require some added weight to balance the CG in the correct place.  That's probably not a real problem either.

I would worry more about getting two Fox 15's to run the same at the same time.  My personal experience with them has not been so good!

I'm also sure the Fox Crowd will tell us how wonderful they are!

Folks, John and Gordan used hot 15s in their twins—not FPs or anything similar. Without searching all my emails and notes from some years ago, I cannot remember what they were but I think one pair was OS—maybe FSRs—but I can't be sure. I do remember John telling me that they needed lots of nitro.

The one we built here in Oz used a pair of LA 25s. I was going to shorten the nacelles a little but John advised me not to because the hot 15s were not all that much lighter than FPs or LAs.

The comic cut of the story is that the builder that I drew the nacelles for made a mistake and put the tip weight box on the top of the wing—and when trimmed, the model didn't need any tip weight.

Hmmmmm...
The one we flew here in Tucson had two FP15's.  They probably had a little extra nitro in the fuel because Tucson is 2400 ft ASL altitude.  But....I'm absolutely sure they wer OS FP 15's.  They did use other engines later but I'm fairly sure they weren't anything really special.

the only engines I ran on the twin Pathfinder was and still is FP .15 teens.8 3/4 Dia. and 4 inch. pitch APC props.

For all who have asked I should have final pricing calculated by early next week. I have had to make a couple of corrections to the AutoCAD file so that the parts will fit correctly.

Based upon what most respondents have said we will offer either a full kit or a short kit (short kit has no block, sheet, sticks or hardware).
