Dave Hull built a 1/2A with that wing type. Although his was a split-wing, the left and right halves revolved independently. It was very interesting to watch.

Here's a picture of Ron Duly flying the DARPA Flettner at Whittier Narrows. You can tell it is really hard based on the tense body language....
Note that the rotors at that particular instant both happen to be more or less vertical. The "plane" has virtually zero glide; the engine quits and it falls on the ground.
An increase in the Cox horsepower was a very welcome thing!

Let’s go back to the 50’s!
There was a great toy called the Skyro-Plane.
Tumbling wings and it flew like a kite.
Very popular at the Jersey shore.
If you haven’t heard of it, look it up on google.

Bob,
That Skyro is pretty cool. I couldn't find any pictures or video of one flying, but just looking at one in the box...nice.
There was also a kite-gyrocopter. A friend had one and we flew it in a parking lot after work. Got a nice west coast sea breeze late afternoon and it easily stayed airborne. The control/positioning seemed a little sketchy though....
