You got me mixed up with Joe Gilbert, I'm good to about 20, Gilbert will fly in anything less than a full blown tornado and even then I believe he has thought about it ;)

The Tulsa Contest is this weekend. We will have the Mother of all Raffles on sunday, and will be selling tickets for it on both saturday and sunday. This is by far the biggest and best raffle we have ever had, thanks to a bunch of Club Members and other Supporters.

If the turnout Friday is any indication this should be a great contest. Couldn't ask for nicer weather. Be sure to look us up on the TGD Webcam this weekend!

Looks like you guys are having a good time already! And I see Brad made it with the new TRex. It looks awesome in the air. Great in flight photos. Thanks for sharing, hope to get some more reporting from y'all soon.

Got home today and found out some setting on the camera got knocked off or malfunctioned. Possibly the white balance or something along those lines. I tried to color correct a few shots but not much from today is very usable. The camera used for the non-action shots seems to be doing OK so it might get used for everything tomorrow.

For those of you that have never been to a contest that Elwyn was there ,taking his great picture, let me tell you that NO ONE works any harder than he does. At times he literally runs from one place to another. We are all very fortunate to have some one as talented as him that is willing to so freely share his time and talent, to say nothing of the considerable monetary expense involved.
Thank You, Elwyn.
PS Along with everything else he is one heck of a nice guy.

Thanks for the kind words. After a good nap and dinner I did a little quick editing of some of today's shots.

The work the Gluedobbers put into their fantastic facility is overshadowed only by their outpouring of Goodwill to the contestants and all who came to this contest. Put it on your calendar, it is a must. Thanks to all the 'Dobbers,

I'm not moving real fast today but have a few stats, will post the results a little later today or tomorrow AM. We counted 75 heads just before lunch on Saturday and had 37 entrants. Couldn't have asked for better weather other than the wind may have been a little too calm.
I would like to personally thank all those who came and all the Gluedobbers that made this happen.. We had a ball and next year will even be better..
Thanks,
Bob

Thank you Tulsa Glue Dobbers. A really superb contest with wonderful people. A big thank you to Bob Reeves and his wife who worked very hard to make this all happen. Another big thank you to Elwyn for catching much of the contest in expert photography. Last, but certainly not least, was the great food prepared by none other than Colleen Gilbert. Wow! We really pigged out. Thanks also to the Judges who did a great job and set a really good tone for the whole contest.

I think most has been stated already about the Tulsa Gluedobbers Contest. It was Bob's first as a CD and he picked some of the best people going to help run it and judge. The field has to be seen in person to be beleived even if it is grass I had no problems with take-offs and landings. The Gluedobbers ladies put out a terrific feed that was worth the trip. It is going to be hard to go to St Louis next year. DOC Holliday

I also want to personally thank every one that came to Tulsa. You all made it a great weekend.

Great that you guys had a fine time!Hope to make it up there in the future.
Excuse my ignorance, but is this club related to the Tulsa Glue Dobbers Inc? I try to google it and it gives the RC club site.Any relation? Just curious..
-
They separated years ago and are two different clubs and different charters. De can explainer better than me. I remember in 1970 or 71 dad flew in the Gluedobbers contest in East Tulsa and there was free flight RC and CL at that contest. Check tulsacl.com

We share the same roots and at one time were a combined club. Quite some time ago it was determined that the three main groups...RC, FF, and CL all go their seperate ways. We all now have seperate facilities, but only the CL and RC guys held onto the orginal Gluedobber name, ours with the tag Control Line Club attached.

Now thats very interesting! Thanks for the clarification. So if you fly both CL and RC, you join 2 clubs with the glue dobbers name! Now thats wild stuff! I hope it was a peaceful split.. mw~ D>K

In the 70's, the Tulsa Glue Dobbers had three groups under one umbrella. UC, FF and RC. After our last UC/FF contest the RC group managed a vote to have no more UC/FF contests. At that time the UC group had about 50 members, but not all always made it to the meetings. The RC group had grown to be the largest group and basically split the club. There was a lot of bitterness over that vote. At that time the major source of money for the club treasury was the UC contest. The RC group also voted to take the club treasury. It was a shame because it was many years before another UC contest was held in this area. The last contest was sponsered by Bill White CHevrolet, and they parked a flat bed truck at the field with all the trophies on display. We had FF all classes, combat, rat, proto speed, carrier, stunt, two days with lots of flying. The RC folks didn't want to help with the contest and didn't want to give up one weekend a year for the contest. Because the club split, the UC group pretty much disbanded and it wasn't until De started to try and put the old club back together many years later that UC came back to the Tulsa area. We used to have several good hobby shops in the Tulsa area, but after the UC bunch disbanded, and the FF folks went their own way, there wasn't as much business in this area and we lost some good shops.

I've been griping all season about having to fly in hurricanes. What happens? I go to Tulsa...what do I find? A wonderful flying site built by the Tulsa Gluedobbers at Bob Reeves place, A bunch of beautiful airplanes and good pilots, good food and a ton of friendship and great stories; most of all calm winds and blue skies...the shock was too much, so much so my plane was so "overjoyed," I couldn't control it. <=
