Most of the club members are without power and some without water.. We are running on a generator keeping heat in the house and I managed to get the internet up using my laptop on the one good phone line we have left. High speed internet went down yesterday about noon along with the power. We are somewhat rual and they are saying it will be 7 to 10 days before the power is restored.. It's like a war zone around here with downed trees and power lines but so far everyone I have checked with is doing OK..

Good news that everyone is doing okay. As Dad would always tell me when something went wrong, "It could be worse". I feel for those poor folks that have the same weather day after day. MERRY CHRISTMAS, DOC Holliday

Neighbors on both sides of my house lost their trees and guess whose yard they fell in? I lost a 40 year old maple that shaded half of my house in the summer. Can't get in the house from the front door because there is a tree on my front porch. Damage to the house from what I can tell so far is mostly gutters and fasica board. Power lines down in front and back so we abandoned Sunday morning. Went to girlfriends house in Tulsa because at the time she had power. Sometime Sunday night her neighborhood went black. Her Roof has taken a lot of hits from falling branches but so far nothing has gone through. She has gas waterheater (hot water) and a gas log fireplace that doesn't really heat up anything except maybe a 6 foot radius. Went to work yesterday mainly because my building in downtown has power. It looks like a warzone with all the splintered and overturned trees and downed power lines. Have been calling around for a portable generator...ha no such luck. Every portable generator in the state of Oklahoma has been sold. I kept telling myself I should get one last summer when I had the chance...wish I had listened to myself.

I'm going back out to the house this evening before dark and check on some things and pick up some flashlights and clothes. I'll try and take some photos. My daughter says you have to park a block away and walk to the house and you can't even see the house from the street because of all the downed trees.

It's raining right now and the bad news is it's suppose to get down to 30 tonight.

My Mom is at home with no electricity. She walks with a cane and is talking about driving over to her friends house in the ice!!!

I am freaking out!!!

Yea, just talked to my folks in Oklahoma City. They've been without power since yesterday. Trees down everywhere. Sounds pretty ugly. Projections are, no power for another 6-8 days. I'm certainly worried about them.

Guess I'll definitely put in a big back-up generator when I move to Tulsa.

Here in the middle of Ks. it looks pretty much the same. We lost a lot of our big trees, and there is ice everywhere. I talked to Joe Gilbert yesterday, and he said you could hear trees snapping off about every 7 seconds. It wasn't to much longer before that was the case here also. We have been fortunate that we have not lost power yet. I do have a stove insert in my basement fireplace since we are an all electric home, and have had it going just in case. I talked to my son who lives in town, and they were without power, as well as a whole lot of others.

No power no water, man it is ugly looks like a tornado came through and left the houses. Trees are devastated.

My neighbor got a new generator. We have been very lucky as far as the storm. A lot of limbs down but we only lost electric a couple of times for a few hours. During one of these brief outages he decided to check out the generator. He found out that it burned 1 1/2 gallon of gasoline per hour. 1 1/2x24x$3.00 = $ 108.00 per day. That will get you about any hotel room around this part of the country. So much for the idea of generating my own electricity.

Well you can't even get a room for 200.00 around here. They're all booked. You don't have to run your generator 24/7. I'm still getting one after this mess is over. 3.00 bucks an hour would be well worth it.

I agree 100%. Not only the hotel cost, there's getting there, buying all your food, etc. Then you would have to worry about someone raiding your place, food spoilage, animals to be taken care of and worst of all just trying to get there. You could probably have a few CL buddies come over and help share the cost, build lots of airplanes, and give an extra place for them to stay along with their families to make a bad situation into an adventure. I'm just not sure if I would go diesel, propane or natural gas depending on availability.

13 Years ago we had an Ice Storm in the Memphis area. We were without power for a few days. Good thing we had gas logs.

Funny thing is 9 months later our youngest son was born. There were a lot of "Ice Storm" babies born that year.

All is well here at my Damphew Acres in Tulsa finally. Lost three 50 foot pine trees and lots of the shorter ones. Good thing is, we had a generator that I had bought a week earlier on a whim. Was enough to run fans on the wood stove, and satilite tv. Got power back tonight at 9:10 pm. Life is good again. Hope all is well with the rest of those in bad weather.

Here in Wichita KS we have a lot of ICE on streets and trees, but so far I haven't had any loss of power here at my place (Reason for that is that I got TWO power plants preflighted and ready to run just in case they were needed) One plant 5000 Watts, the other 2200 Watts

Were back on-line.. Power came back on yesterday at about 5:00 PM and high speed internet came back up this morning.

I ran a 5500 watt generator for about 3 days running only the furnace, TV, fridge and a few lights. It would run 8 hours on 5 gallons of gas resulting in a cost of a little less than 2 bucks an hour. We were able to stay home and keep warm wouldn't have mattered what the cost was.

The trees are the real sad part.. Many old very pretty and majestic trees are now mostly fire wood and that makes me sad.

Other than that the idiots trying for a Darwin award simply blow me away.. I find it so very hard to believe anyone would be stupid enough to run a generator inside the house. Really makes one wonder... Think the last report I heard was 45 or so have been taken to the emergency room for Carbon Monoxide poisoning with a couple of deaths.. Unbelievable....

Hi Bob,
Sure glad to see you're O.K. and getting back to normal. I see on the news that Tulsa is going to get hit again but with more snow and less ice.

I'm sure I'll get more BS now from relatives and others about Teena's and my plans to move to the Tulsa area. All I ever hear from them is tornado's.

I am planning on putting in at least a 20KW generator once we settle in. Now all we have to do is find an old hanger big enough so we can fly in any weather.

See you when we get there. If everythin goes right it will be next year, but more likely in 2009.

Have you seen the news. The east is blaming us for all the snow they are getting. I would rather have snow than ice, if I had a choice. Today, dodging all the ice falling from the trees. DOC Holliday

When I got home Friday the power was finally on. I have gas cooking and my wall heater is the old convection style with no electric fans so I never had any problems with heat. No hot water problems either. A couple of years ago somebody at work was throwing away one of those huge decorative candles that's about three inches across and I brought it home thinking it might come in handy some day and this week that day finally arrived. I also had one of those LED flashlights that attaches to a headband so reading wasn't much of a problem. Got no room to complain but I did miss my daily dose of C/L forum odds and ends. All of the out of state utility workers coming in to town to get us back up and running is most impressive and I'm very appreciative of their help.

Our power was off and on many times Monday night, it finally went off for good sometime early Tuesday morning. After two nights with candles and flashlights we went ahead and tracked down a natural gas heater and a gas generator Thursday afternoon. We had heat and electricity for a few hours when the power finally came back on last night around 8PM. There were quite a few trees in the neighborhood that took a lot of heat, we ended up loosing a few moderate size branches from one tree. It definitely could have been worse.
