Title: Tulsa has a new WebCam
Post by: Bob Reeves on March 11, 2015, 07:47:27 AM
Replaced the old D-Link DSC-900 with a Vivotek IB8369. The new camera has higher resolution and a wide field of view.

Check it out...

Notes:
1. This all started a couple years ago when I came up with the idea of being able to see if someone was at the field before you left your house.
2. This is not streaming video, I am running a computer and software that grabs stills from two cameras and uploads the images to the web at intervals set in the software.
3. Sometimes the page is refreshing at the same time the image is being uploaded. When this happens you may only see part of the image. It will catch up on the next refresh but if you don't want to wait you can manually refresh the page and that will fix the image display.
4. The new camera actually produces a 1920 X 1080 image but it has a wide angle lens that is almost a fish-eye. The image you are seeing is 1200 X 675 cropped out of the middle. This is only negative I have found with the camera, wished it had a different lens so I could use the full resolution image. In any case, it's still much better than the old 640 X 480 webcam and the video camera we are using for the 2nd camera.

This is a cool idea.  It'd be nice to have it at our field -- except we're about a mile from the nearest electrical wire, much less a phone connection of any kind, so it'd have to be done with some sort of solar-powered, cell-phone-connected gizmo.

Our big stunt contest is always the last full weekend in September, so far we have almost always been blessed with great weather.

We have a great club, excellent facility and a good bunch of guys but everyone is getting older and fewer are flying. Best time to catch someone is on a weekend when the wind isn't blowing a gale. Our club meetings are on the first Sunday of the month and when we have the best turn out. During the summer you may catch me early in the morning testing or trimming a stunt ship.

I love it Bob. I watched alot last year when we could not make it down for the contest. Hopefully we will make it this year depending on how my wifes allergys are. I want to be on the other side of the webcam.
