Anyone from the St. Louis area going to the Tulsa contest 29-30 September?
If I decide to go, I won't be able to stay for Sunday. I'm not looking for a ride. The reason I ask is because the flyer on their website says there will be an "extremely large merchandise raffle" on Sunday. If I go, I'm going to need a kind, honest soul to bring back all the booty I'm going to win at the raffle on Sunday. #^

OOOps! I can't go to the Tulsa contest, our youngest grandson's first birthday party is that Saturday.
Now I'm going to need to either give money to 1) an honest soul from the St. Louis area going to the Tulsa contest to purchase raffle purchase raffle tickets for me, or 2) give money to an honest soul from the Tulsa area coming to the St. Louis Broken Arrow contest on September 15,16 to purchase raffle tickets for me.
Then I'm still going to need an honest soul from the St. Louis area to bring back my booty from Tulsa's "extremely large merchandise raffle." #^
Any volunteers?

On Friday evening September 28, Joe and Colleen Gilbert are serving dinner out at Reeves Field.
The main dish will be Taco Salad. ( plus drinks, chips, etc. )
This is very generous of both of them.
This way, fun flying and pattern practice can continue 'till dark.
-
We should be at the field before noon Friday... and in the dinner line at the appointed time...
Dave
-
We will be having early contestant sign ups on Friday afternoon.
This will help us get started earlier on Saturday morning.

Here are a few Thursday pics.

Really like the web cam overview of your field. Too bad the RV is blocking most of the circle as viewed around 8 AM central time.

We had a huge turnout today! We must have had 18-20 contestants show up to practice and have fun. I can't remember most of the names, but Roy Decamera from Vancouver Washington showed up to watch the festivities. He had caught a flight from Vancouver, stopped at Denver, and flew in to Tulsa. It was good to see Him (and all the others ) again.
I was tired and left before the big feed put on by Joe and Colleen Gilbert. (Drat)
-
We signed up 9 contestant's today . Hopefully, we can have the pilot's meeting at 9am and get the first flights off soon after.
We will run Classic/Nostalgia and Profile first, and the run Old Time Stunt plus afterwards.
Bryan Norton will be the Rafflemeister . Buy a lotta raffle tickets!
-
De, I will be there Saturday with the grand babies to watch.

Looks like a great turnout. What a great contest. I miss being there so much, but things just don't always go the way we hope for. If anyone there sees my post, tell everyone Jim says hi. Love all you guys. Fair winds and good flying to everyone.

As most of you know, Lew Woolard died last March 2018.
I just found out today that Julie Woolard died last July, 2018.
It's sad.
-
The story behind the motorhome blocking the view of the camera.
Bob Reeves told one of our OKC members that he could park his motorhome at Reeves field. After the motorhome arrived, it was found that it was so heavy that the only place to park it was in front of the camera on a gravel patch.
That's the story in a nutshell.
-
Well as some one has stated, so much for the web cam. Glad you guys are having a good turn out. Tell every body the old DOC says HI and Have fun. H^^
-
Most of the day was fairly dark although the sun popped out briefly a time or two. Not much light for shooting action photos. Managed to get a few anyhow.

Excellent pics Elwyn!!! I like to see my Twister flying from a different point of view.

Thanks for the great pic's... Hope the weather is good!! Salute! Jason

I made it back to Fort Worth about an hour ago. For those within driving distance but could not attend, you missed a good one. Very good attendance, more than what I have ever seen before at Tulsa. Things were well organized, smooth operation all around. Good eats, good conversation, and good flying.
The weather was somewhat better than predicted although some tricky winds at times. Cool and damp in the morning, especially on Saturday. Some afternoon sun warmed things up Saturday. I had to wear a sweatshirt and jacket at dawn on Saturday and was sweating in short sleeves that afternoon. When you are used to 95-100+ degrees for three or four consecutive months, a morning temperature of 57 is cold.
I think Tulsa, like the entire DFW area, benefited from some rather heavy rainfall over the last few weeks. DFW recorded a record rainfall for September of about 12.5 inches. More rain in September than from March to August this year.
The grass on those circles was nicely mowed and ready to go. Hard to find anything better.

This was our 30th annual Stunt contest. The turnout was larger this year; a lot of that was due to Joe Gilbert talking to out of towner's and convincing them to come to our contest.
Thanks , Joe!

You are right, Joe. The MMG's made a great positive addition to the contest. Hot Food was supplied on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Colleen and the MMG's deserve a large amount of thanks!
-
Actually, a good contest requires a whole lot of help from several people. The Tabulators, Runners, Pull testers, Pit Bosses, Judges, General Gofers, Trash Service, Ice Buying , CD's, etc. etc.
We were lucky at the Gluedobbers. About 15 years ago, John Ashford came over from OKC, put on a Judging clinic, and gave us a
cadre of trained Judges.
This was our 30th Stunt contest after the second coming of the Controline Gluedobbers..
Interestingly enough, Jim Lee has attended 29 of those.
-
I left out Photographers!
-
De
And I have thoroughly enjoyed every one!!! The Glue Dobber's put on an excellent contest. The circles are in wonderful condition. Bob Reeves grass berms at the edges delineate them without being obtrusive. And, as De pointed out, there is a very large group of people that do such a great job with all the details. and then, there is lunch....!!!!!
Believe me, when that dinner bell rings, the place comes to a halt!!
And, you should have seen all the kids flying in Beginner! won't be long till they are challenging some of their elders.... And we won't talk about how 'elder' we are becoming....
So, Glue Dobbers, Thanks for as wonderful weekend.
PS: We got to see the Blue Whale again...... :-)
Thanks
Jim

Looks like a good time,,, Gonna definitely try to make it next year.

A photo of the scoreboard for Old Time, Profile, and Classic was posted earlier. I do not think Sunday's scoreboard was posted yet, I have not seen it.
When Sunday's scores are posted, I think you will agree that in Expert, it does not get any closer. From my weak memory, I think the first three places were separated by 1.5 points. If someone has a pic of Sunday's scoreboard, please post it.
-
I wasnt gona post Sundays cause i figured a formal results post will be made. But here it is anyways.

The MMG's are a group of wives who accompany their husbands on the district 8 contest circuit. They help out with various jobs at the contests . In Tulsa, they go shopping , help with the food and tabulating, and donate money to indigenous native tribes. They also clean our clubhouse. They should get combat pay for that!
The MMG's who helped Colleen Gilbert out with the food are; Edie Oliver, Janis Stokey, Stella Hill, Nan beaver, Merilee McMillan, and Sheila Cranfill.
Edit: I left out Rhonda Tipton, Patty Honea, and Linda Gleason.
Tabulator Pat Reeves was assisted by Maggie Blanchard.

Really wish I could have watched this one. In all of my "too many" years flying stunt I don't think I have ever seen a contest where last place was a 587!
Great Job!

That was interesting, but doesn't mean too much (and that sort of thing has to be accommodated in any contest organization scheme (high judge/low judge problem)).
The order is what matters, and young Matt seems to be learning very quickly...

So true. They are all accomplished fliers. I have flown contests where the conditions were perfect and everybody flew way above their normal. Those days are the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

I can see my guys didn't make the podium, so I better bone up on my critics of their patterns. At least they were there. H^^

It was a great weekend for a contest! The weather for the most part was fantastic, and the camaraderie was great as always! The scores were really high but the order is what matters, and as long as it’s consistent as well. Thanks to the Gluedobbers and everyone that put on the contest. I flew with them for a year and a half while I was in OKC and it felt like I was back at home this weekend.
I only took a couple videos this weekend of full flights. Here is Richard Oliver’s first official flight. The other couple flights are on my video camera which I will try and upload to YouTube tomorrow. The facebook post is public so it shouldn’t have any problems to be seen here on Stunthanger:

Yes Joe could have been thinking a lot of things. But, the one that came to my mind is where did I mess up the pattern. ???

Gary Mondry, not wondering that at all brother. If I remember correctly that "lousy profile" has beat me in the past. :) It was great to see you again. An excellent contest, as it always is. I might have been saying "you put your right foot in, you put your right foot out. What if the Hokey Pokey really is what its all about?" Actually there is no telling, what I was doing. LL~ LL~ LL~
