TT 11x4.5 props
« on: January 05, 2018, 11:44:49 AM »
I have been talking to my contact at TT and I can do a run of the 3530 Cyclone props. The bad news is they are more expensive.
They will be around $5.50 each plus shipping. I need to know how many would commit at this price and how many you want. Just respond here with how many you would want. I suspect after this run there will be no more. As this will be my last time ordering. (I need to order a lot of these to get them)

Also I may be able to get some TT 12.5 x 5.5 if there is a interest. Does anyone have the number of these props? I am not familiar with them.

I am ok with the price increase

If still in 6 each packages, like last time, I would like two packages

If singles just 10 each for me

What are these props a good match for engine wise?  40VF or 46VF?

What are these props a good match for engine wise?  40VF or 46VF?

Too small and too much pitch for the 40VF and WAY too small and WAY too much pitch for the 46VF, or at least without other power-reducing changes. For example, the first-generation piped setup for the 40VF used a 12-3.25 Bolly, and that was still too much pitch/too fast for the 46VF with the same venturi. And the sound it made was, charitably, quite noticeable. It wasn't an ideal system, but it was dead-nuts reliable and repeatable - and VASTLY BETTER than anything that had come before it.

I ran the TT11-4.5 on the 35FP with a muffler, (a LOOOOONG time ago) it was really not enough prop to take full advantage of the power. It might be better on the 40FP, to keep it unloaded enough to suck fuel.

What are these props a good match for engine wise?  40VF or 46VF?

These props are a good match for what ever airplane/engine combination that they WORK on. If you fly airplanes with .32  to .46 size engines on them, you should have a half dozen or so of these in your prop box. You should also have as many of some other brands of props to try through the trimming process, also. A prop will work because of other factors in the equation of a particular airplane, including the engine, plug , model size and weight. And this prop might not work at it's best until to clip it 1/8" or so. I have a Sakitumi with a OS.LA.46 on it. It flew fine with an LA.40 on it but I wanted to get some time and experience with the LA.46, so put one of those on. The usual LA.46 props were a bit too much for the airplane, and it tended to wind up. I forget all the different combinations of prop and line length and such that i experimented with. I tried the TT 11-4.5 and it all started to come together. You might think that it wouldn't be quite enough prop for a .46, but it works with that engine on that airplane. You just can't tell until you try it. The long and short of it is, you should have these in your flight box, but it shouldn't be the only prop you have in there.
I need to check my prop stock and will check in tomorrow if I need some. Have you got an estimation when you will get delivery and when we should be able to make payment?
   Thanks a lot,

   I'll take 6 of the 11-4.5 props.

I'll verify the part number for the 12.5-5.5 is #3518.
And I'll take 6 of those if they get made.
These have been working pretty nicely on a ST.60.
I have heard of guys running them on ST.G.51's , but that is a lot of pitch,
And need to try one for myself.

Time on the props would be about 8 weeks after I order them.SEND NO MONEY till I send them. But first and most importantly I need a BUNCH more that want these. I will need to unload 500 of these. They did drop the minimum from over 1000 to make a run but I cant get stuck with 300 extra props. I will keep this up for a week to see how it goes. Just please don't say that you will take 100 just to get me to order them then only take 12. I am not a rich man.

Thanks

Just curious what these props look like and why they have attracted this much attention (although not yet enough, I see. c'mon guys, help Rick make the grade!).  Wood?  Carbon?  3 or 2 blade? Undercambered? not?  etc.  Anyone got a picture and an explanation for their apparent desirability?

Thanks

   Hi Ted;
I don't have a picture but you could search eBay or just google Thunder Tiger Cyclone Prop images for a photo. They are two blade, molded plastic, and not too heavy. I would be interested in a comparison of the plastic used in these from China compared to the APC props made here. They are true pitch to their markings, at least the ones I have checked have been. Sort of narrowish blade and not too thick. They just work well and are usually the first prop a lot of guys try on a new model. For the price, even with the price increase, they are a good deal for a quality, consistent prop for the Joe Bellcranks of the world.

A few years ago one of the guys at the field handed me one of these props and said "try this."  I put it on a plane that was powered by an LA 46.  The difference was like night and day.  Climb performance was fantastic, much better than the Zinger (no surprise there), BY & O, or any other prop I had at that time.

Regarding the prop's features, I have no idea why this prop works so well but it does.  Most of the 11 X 4.5 weigh about 1.2 to 1.3 ounces.  I am not sure of the material but it is quite stiff.

There is an under camber to the blades.  The stated pitch is 4.5 but I have measured some at 5.

Forgot to mention:  I will take six (6) of the 11 X 4.5 and six (6) of the 12.5 X 5.5.

The first pack of six that I bought cost something like $12 plus tax.  For about $2 each, I should have bought many more at that price.

Regarding stiffness as compared to other props:  Of course, it is not as stiff as a carbon fiber prop.  I would say that it is about equal in stiffness, maybe a bit less, to a similarly sized wood prop, such as BY & O.

Do we have enough control line stunt fliers remaining in this country (or the world) to achieve the minimum number of props required to make another production run?

We are not a market niche that enjoys economy of scale.

I just did a quick spread sheet

31 different names

307 each  of the 11x4.5  and 72 each of the 12.5x5.5 are asked for

long way to go to make sure Rick is not holding the bag on a bunch of props

does not look like the 12.5 x 5.5 will make the min for production deal worth doing

Does anyone buy original YOSHIOKA's Glass Nylon Props from Yoshioka of Japan?
I called up Yoshioka today and they were very kind enough to answer my Qs.
Yoshioka have stopped producing their GN Props because the market is shrinking. Their late productions were done in China. That will the reason why TT have the copied molds. Of course Yoshioka still have the right of the props and TT's are illegal.
Yoshioka still have enough numbers of stocks, both 11x4.5 and 12x5.5. They stock less than a thousand but enough for our C/L market (I do know how many they stock now).
If someone want to buy a few hundreds of GN Props, they can offer Qty special rates.
