Time Zones
« on: October 29, 2016, 05:48:01 PM »
Yes it is almost time to go back to standard time in some parts of this big old world.  A great modeler could not figure out why I'm posting at 4 AM of a day.   I guess I could google the time zones and see if Matt was in New Zealand or a certain part of Australia.  Really I was up at that time but not on the computer.   Mother nature has her way as well as the herd of mutts I have.    I do remember while attending a training class for the telephone company a classmate called home to California from Columbus Ohio before we left for class.  He couldn't figure out why his wife sounded sleepy.  Where I'm at in the states it 6 hours later than the Big Island known as Hawaii and the Barton site is 6 hours the other way.   So Matt, check the Central  Daylight Savings Time for the USA when have a mind too compared to where ever you are.   LL~ LL~ LL~ H^^

Doc, just give Matt your phone number by PM and tell him to call anytime! I actually got a call at about 2am from an F1A flier in India. He'd gotten a government job and had a Watts line or something like that. No, he didn't want to "fix my Windows". Turned out to be a member of the Communist Party in India.  :-\

I did call Australia once. It was a challenge to figure out a time when I would be awake and they would likely be home and awake in Sydney NSW. I've also been called from Adelaide SA a few times, by David Anderson. That won't happen again, since he passed away several years ago. At least, I hope he won't call me this next NYE.  Z@@ZZZ

I have posted at O-Dark:30 while waiting for my fishing buddy to pick me up for a multi-day trip to Eastern Washington. He sends me a text when he's leaving his house, and I was ready to boogie, so sat down and opened up Stunt Hangar. When I drove (his truck) to Tennessee in 2012 to pickup (his new boat), I left my watch on Seattle time. Back there, and while driving, my cell phone told me local time...when it worked at all, which was seldom. T-Mobile didn't function well anyplace I ever went, including in my house. Works in the T-Mobile store, tho! Verizon works almost everywhere, it seems. S?P  Steve

If you check Matt's profile his email ends with nz so he's in New Zealand which is the most eastern state of Australia :).

But seeing we're talking time zones, I've always been intrigued as to why the line between time zones in America seems to just meander through the states seemingly at random without following borders. This is mainly the eastern states where even a very small state can be split into two different zones. Admittedly it's easy in Australia because our borders run north/south so that makes it simple to have the three time zones.

The time zones were implemented by government employees.

Without bringing the email addy into it, the last I checked (a month or two ago), Matt claimed to be in Oz. But then, I never could understand his ramblings all that well. Maybe a sign of brilliance (his, not mine), bad typing, or other mysteries.

I don't recall if the Australian States have counties or not. But back in Eastern USA, a lot of the States have a silly number of counties. Indiana, for instance, has something on the order of 105, while Washington State has around 23 if I remember correctly from High School WA State History. It has a lot to do with population density. County borders are then subjected to the vagaries of rivers and the whims of politicians. With more States and more counties, the more politicians, suggesting that the weirdness must increase exponentially.   :(  Steve

Was just giving Doc a nudge in the ribs , as I saw a post from him after my ' mellow yellow ' incitements on his B 25 paint post .

Id thought He wouldve come up with " Off to Milk the Cows " as someone does at 3 am , 4 days a week , to start at 4 .
Or more likely ' Going Fishing ' .

we all know after the slack on a spring tide the fish meander down the shallows , in the wee small hours .

Had been chisling away at finding the Al Stunters on windy Tapes  for the Father post ." So many claim to be the father of the ( Ford ) Mustang , Id hate to be seen with the Mother " so they say .  :-\
saw Docs post and assumed it was around 4 pm there , so just a nod in passing . Looks like the fall is settling in there ? grey & overcast ??

Dorothys Slippers , are doing well. anyway . http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-37754079

Doc / Kansas / wizard of Oz/ Dorothy !  ;D FOLLOW the YELLOW BRICK ROAD . Now wheres that ? . most of us wouldve seen the original , in the movies , as nippers , id think .

Fall has fell. The grass is green again. The trees have mostly shed their leaves, but with a few stragglers. Most importantly, water temp in Lk. WA is under 60F. The fish are deep now. Raingear needs to be handy at all times. Slippers need to be fuzzy and warm. The urchins are gathering for the sugar rush, and the property taxes are due. That sux.  R%%%% Steve
