Title: Toys for Tots Whittier Narrows
Post by: Larry Renger on November 23, 2017, 12:34:05 PM
December 5th and 6th are the Toys for Tots days. There will be speed and racing, plus three 1/2 A events.

Saturday will be hollow log proto speed and Torqette proto speed. Sunday we fly Leprechaun stunt.

Hollow log is any carved fuselage plane similar to the old Scietific models. Cross section no less than a Babe Bee backplate, wing area 56 sq.in. minimum. Engine must be a reed valve .049

Torqette is a one design event using Dale Kirn’s design. .061 maximum displacement. Two classes, plane bearing and unlimited.

Lines, handle and fuel will be provided for both events.

Leprechaun stunt is the modern pattern using any model with a maximum .061 displacement or electric equivalent (15 watt-hour battery capacity or less).  Model design, size, lines, fuel all open.

Y’all come. Entry fee is a toy of $10 minimum value. One toy covers all events entered.

Are we getting ready for the old folks test to see if you qualify for a room?   I flunked it and they are getting a room for me. D>K

Had to correct spelling.  I do not like these key boards. HB~>

Trophies are ready. This year we have 1st and 2nd place for Leprechaun aerobatics. First only for the Proto Speed events.  y1

Come on, racing, speed and aerobatics guys, participate in the 1/2A events!  mw~

Most Mouse Race planes should qualify for Hollow Log, as scale looks are desired, but not required.

As I recall, last year an ARC Brodak Baby Clown won the Leprechaun event. The competition has not been that tough!  HB~>

Crazy question, but is the leprechaun stunt flown over the asphalt area? I'll have to install landing gear if so. I have a Blackhawk models pt-19 that qualifies for hollow log I believe.

The hollow log proto speed event is 10 llaps from a standing start, so lg are mandatory.

Leprechaun stunt does not require a hollow log plane, though one can be flown. Takeoff is one of the scores maneuvers, so again, lg are needed.

All events are over asphalt.

Thanks Larry. I fly combat and speed out there relatively often. Although not as much this year as 2016. I'm just checking to see what planes I'm going to bring with me. I think I'll throw LG on a ringmaster 207 for leprechaun stunt.

Outstanding! That should be very competitive. What engine is on it?  :)

It flys pretty decent. It's got a norvel .061. Hopefully I'll get another flight or two on it tomorrow and Saturday before I come out. Last time I think it was a little tail heavy

Today had a good turnout in speed and combat.

Lots of good flying and fantastic weather.  ;D

John Wright won Hollow Log Proto, and I won Torquette plain bearing. Both planes in the 55mph range.

My Torquette has lot of room to go faster, as it was running with a 3” pitch prop. Should top 70 at least with a 5” pitch.  >:D

Hopefully the other groups will pitch in with their results.

More speed, combat tomorrow and Leprechaun stunt. Oh, ant the racers are supposed to show up too.

I made my 0400 departure time (driving). I should make the pilots meeting!

Edit:
I left my house in LV at 0400 and arrived at whittier narrows recreation park at 0743! Nice!

We had 6 entries in 1cc (Leprechaun) stunt. I had to drop out to judge. :(

John Wright won with a 498 score and Scott Dinger came in second with 401.

Weather was again perfect.  ;D
