Elwyn and I departed Tulsa at 6 am and headed to Topeka, Kansas. We headed north on hwy 169, jogged west on KS 47, and then north on hwy 75 into Topeka. The small towns we passed through had decorated their cemetary's.
Memorial day is still observed in the heartland.
We stopped by the Forbes Field air combat museum, and went through it. They have a very nice selection of aircraft. There were a couple of very rare aircraft there, a North American O-47B observation airplane, and a Douglas F3D Skynight navy fighter. I found out that Forbes Field had been named in 1948 to honor Major Forbes who was killed in the crash of the jet powered version of the Northrop flying wing at Edwards AFB in 1947.
Next we found our motel, checked in, and went to the new Topclass flying field which is located in Family park on the west side of Topeka.
