Top Hat
« on: February 08, 2009, 08:09:58 AM »
I want to take this opportunity to thank Frank Fanelli and his staff at Flying Models for their efforts and coordination to produce my “Top Hat” article. They are a joy to work with. The March 2009 issue is now available.

Flying Models is the only major national magazine that consistently supports controline.  I hope that we will all support them.

Congradulations Tom.  Looks great and I look forward to the article.  Now are you going to have a short kit to go along with the plans?  DOC Holliday

Beautiful airplane!
Although I don't have a subscription, I will have to pick up that issue at the hobby shop today.
Very nice job.    H^^

Read the article last night, fresh from the mailbox! Nice job Tom! There is a great article on the 1/2A Profile Scale event from Tuscon in this issue too! o2oP

Flying Models is very much worth subscribing to for those who don't already, just do it. y1

Wow, Tom. Lovely model! Beautiful work, and I'm looking forward to reading your article. The model is the epitome of a classical stunter, and the paint scheme is just perfect.

It is so true, only FM has always supported control line, God bless 'em.

Great looking plane and a really well put together article - Flying Models knows a winner when they see it. The 1/2A article was a good read also, FM is always at the top of the stack in my "Library".

I don't know what my wife would do if they went under- it is the one thing she can count on getting me for Christmas every year that she knows fits, will get used and makes me happy!

Hi Tom,Superb model and Article! I enjoyed reading all about it! Now will you down size it for us older persons who don't have strong enough shoulders to horse around a model of that heft anymore? Something for an LA .46 or Brodak .40 to pull through the air! Just remember someday you'll be 71 too!

Tally Ho!

Doc,
I have no plan for a short kit at this time. But I do have laser ribs available for the "Top Hat", and can make rough fiberglass cowels on request.

Phil,
I don't know about shrinking the "Top Hat", but I do have several new designs in the works that will include some .40/.46 sizes. These are all new airplanes, these include a simple step up airplane from profiles; a .40/.46 size Air Race styled stunter, and a .60-.75  Air Race styled stunter.

I also have the original pencil drawings for a Classic era Nats winner. I had this airplane in my possession until I moved to Texas. This airplane has never been published.

All need is more time in a day!

Another article for CL that will appear in FM will be Don Herdman's P-47 Razorback that he designed in 1967.  His article will probably appear in July or August.
Looking forward to the article.  H^^

Everyone,

Thanks for the positive reaction to my "Top Hat" article.

Please let Flying Models know how you feel about any articles they they publish. They can only use letters that are specifially addressed to the editor. Send your comments to frankf@flying-models.com

Comments on the forums cannot be used since, only letters to the editor can be considered as having permission for them to quote.

Remember the days that we used to wait anxiously for the next issue of Model Airplane News? M.A.N. now is RC ONLY! They haven't covered all models in a long time, making the magazine name incorrect. Frankly, they should rename it to "RC Model Airplane News".

Model Aviation supports $18,000 jets, inspite of the announcement a few years ago that they wanted to get back to basics.

Again,FM is the only major magazine that supports ALL facets of model aviation interests.  Encourage your friends to subscribe to FM. We certainly would not like to lose a quality magazine that supports us.
