Top Gun Maverick Movie
« on: May 26, 2022, 05:03:42 PM »
Hello,

I watched the first showing of Top Gun Maverick today.   I liked it and recommend seeing it.  I don't think it was as good as the first, but is well worth seeing.

Does Maverick have a romantic fling in the new version? If so who's the babe?

It's interesting they brought Val Kilmer back and were able to use his voice with digital reconstruction he now requires following throat cancer. He hasn't had it easy.

I’m waiting to see it now.  Haven’t been to this theatre at Long Beach Towne Center in several years.  I like Krikorian Buena Park for the recliners and tray tables.  Anyways…  I’m surprised that they no longer accept cash!!!  You can’t hand a kid $10 and say go get Junior Mints.  Apple Pay / Google Pay would be a workaround cuz every kid has a cell phone.  But seriously, I wouldn’t be comfortable handing over a credit or debit card.

I went to one of those new food courts yesterday.  Fan-TASTIC food selection.  But every vendor had a “No Cash” sign at the register.  Yikes.

Pretty soon we’ll be chipped like our pets only we’ll put our hand on/near the payment terminal to pay for stuff.

Whatever happened to the old line "Legal tender for all debts public and private" nomenclature for good old American dollars and cents?  Did I miss something? (Something "else", that is!  OMG, what age has done to this one's memory banks!)

Banks!!! Yeah, how about banks, huh!   Can banks refuse to take "old fashioned" cash money now, too?) Huh!  Huh!

My God how I miss enjoying and reminiscing about the America I grew up in...and don't ask how long ago that was!!!

Show them the message on a dollar bill that reads
‘ This note is legal tender for all debts public and private.  ‘
If they don’t accept it the stuff is free.

I hate to bring it up now, but just gotta: read the book of Revelation in the scripture and note the passages about the mark of the beast.  I believe we're getting closer than we might think.

We have a cinema near us called the Movie Tavern it's a popular place. They recommend ordering your meal online before going and reserving the seats. Last time we went before the pandemic people all around us were eating a variety of dinners in there recliners with food and drink trays extending out like  counters. It was a bit distracting especially getting past the smell of everyone's food, it deterred us from our usual popcorn. Recently they announced they have eliminated the wait staff to take orders at your seats no doubt to save money, thus you must order order on line before going. Even the candy stand is gone, if you want a box of Gummies better think ahead. What's it all coming to? I guess we'll wait for TGM to hit Prime.

Update.
30 minutes of trailers and commercials.
2 hours and 11 minute movie.
Pee before sitting down and getting comfortable.
Couple of tear-jerker moments.
Dolby 7.1 is awesome.  Might have to see it in iMax.
Definitely worth the ticket price.
5-stars - Would watch again (when it’s a Blue Ray on sale or on cable).

The last movie my wife and I went to see was "The Passion of the Christ."  I refuse to pay to the price and it is my little contribution to boycotting Hollywood.

Steve, I think the first movie was more romantic and had better music.  I, like others, haven't been to the theatre in years.  This brought me out and it was worth it.   Something different was that I had to pick a seat when I bought the ticket.

I will buy the blue ray and see how it sounds on my home theatre too.

I'm with you John, I love the hot buttery popcorn, still can be paid for with cash here in Kiwiland - but like the US it is changing quickly. I'm looking forward to seeing the new Cruise movie. Interestingly I thought there would be a law to say a business must accept cash as legal tenure. NZ law says a business can decline cash , but is obliged to inform patrons in advance ?? Funny enough debts must be accepted eg to the tax department if in cash. Hence many stories of jokers pissing off the IRD (IRS), banks etc by paying in 10c pieces - our smallest coin now in NZ. I often wonder what would happen if I took my cash to the Reserve Bank of NZ and asked for it's gold backing please. LL~ I guess you guys would get the same reply from the Federal Reserve?

Hey Grumpy Old Guys,
My lovely daughter took me so see the new Top Gun Maverick, we saw the first movie together when it came out, she thought it would be great to see the second version together also.  It was great and we both enjoyed it very much, the action and flight shots were excellent.  What I did like was the references given the first version of Top Gun movie, it was totally worth seeing it and so were the popcorn & sodas.

Later,
Mikey

My oldest son, daughter, her boy friend and myself went yesterday. One of the best movies I've seen in years. Had some funny parts but more a serious tone to it compared to the first. They did a great job incorporating some of the first movie into this one and of course the in flight shots were great! Old school is still cool.

We went to see it at the weekend - my birthday treat LOL! But the 'Penny Benjamin' side line had me racking my brains as to how she had history with Maverick ! ! !
Then it clicked two days later - think back to 1st movie when Goose's wife lets the secret out about 'Maverick going supersonic with the Admiral's daughter' - Penny Benjamin!
That tied up another loose end . . . . . . . Oh and also a great film  H^^

Floyd,
my sister has had 4 vaccinations for covid and still got it. Ended up, unknowingly, passing it onto her son and daughter in law.

In my world we now have the Omricon strand of Covid, we have a major outbreak of, "The Normal Yearly", influenza and the first cases of Monkey Pox.

Go and live your life. There just might be a bus with your name on it?

Doc.  We got the bucket of popcorn.   We brought bottle of water in our pockets because the theatre gets like 7.00 for a bottle of water.

Now we need to get Arnold to make a new "Running Man" movie.

I saw the movie last night. It was good but as with all sequels it was not as good at the original.
Just IMHO. 😛

One thing I did notice was when they were running across the air field to steal the F-18 that neither pilot had there flight helmets. But when they got into the cockpit they both had them on. It’s in the details. 😎

When they were running across the field they had their helmets strapped to their belts..!

I think I like the sequel even better than the original.  Had to talk my grandson into tagging along, after the movie he was ready to enlist!

What? Like flying a flight of hostile aircraft, covertly, into sovereign airspace to destroy a 'suspected' military target whilst not at war with said country?  n1
This is maybe why portions of the world don't appreciate America! Yes - I know its a movie but it's not a good narrative to brag about IMO!

Just read where Paramount is being sued for copyright violations for this movie.  This will be interesting.  By the way somebody mentioned Kelly McGuinness in an above post.  Have you seen her lately?  She is no "babe" anymore.  By the way, she doesn't like men.
