Top Flite Score ARF Maiden Flight
« on: July 09, 2016, 04:38:01 PM »
Had this no-longer-available ARF around for a couple of years. I did not have all the components but got some ofthem made up and made some myself.
Wow....it was tearing it up on the first flight! I did a second flight and richened up the engine....much slower and strong flight. Less pull too. Flys really well.
Now to get it trimmed and get to know it.

   Hi Shug;
     I like my Score and have a Saito .56 four stroke in it. I can blame Keith Sandberg for makeing me try a four stroke! I think we have covered the need to check out the nose construction on another thread but will reiterated here. WATCH THE NOSE if you haven't gone through it and reglued everything.
   You had edited in that you had a 11-7 prop for break in? Is that correct? I can't imagine Randy recommending that much pitch for break in. Maybe 11-4 or 5? That would explain the fast speed and hard pull. What flying prop did he recommend?
   Mine weighs in at a portly 70 ounces but it carries the weight well. I think I need to shorten my lines a bit and will look at that when I get it back out to tune up for the Paducah contest.
   Good luck and have fun with it,

I did beef up and pin the nose for sure. Read on of your old posts about it. As to the prop...I wanted to make sure I had some speed. Hate a slow doggy flight. Next will be an 11x4 and then on up to a 12x4 and maybe 13x4. Did not get a lot of info from Randy on break-in but he did send along some 12 and 13 props. Have not run it much so went on the 11 side.
It sure turned nice, wings were level an smooth landings.

Hi Shug,
I hope you get as much enjoyment with your TF Score as I did with mine.  My Score was tail heavy so I moved the engine forward with spacers between the RC engine mount and the firewall.  Still I had to put lead in the spinner. My Score was powered by a Randy Smith G51 and was 76 oz.  Beside that it was very competitive and I did well at the contests.  The Score's undoing was maybe that I wore it out.  The upright on the flap horn(stock part) broke and surprisingly I was able to land the plane and it hangs in my garage as the best of my fleet to date.  I also have a new in the box Strega ARF which I am hoping will surpass my TF Score because it will be lighter in weight and will powered with a ST 60.  Please let me know about your experience with how the two compare?

Certainly loved it right off the ground. Mine came out 69 ozs and balances spot on. Turned snappy but did not seem tail heavy or nose heavy.
As I don't have much time on either plane it is hard to compare. Strega for sure took more trimming but flew a whole pattern with it yesterday. Felt rel good. Big planes are fun but I may need a bigger vehicle!

Funny. Combat does look fun but I will never try it as I know I will like it. My time is full. Fun-Filled.

Hi Shug,

Well when you get some more time or sufficient time on both planes please share your observations? One thing I agree with is the TF Score does land very smooth on grass.

That gives me hope and I'm not to far behind you. I've discovered elevator flaps are warped and needed some attention .Hopefully wont be long!
